#ConflictedWorlds Day 18: #PersonVsAddiction is the theme in this unforgettable novel by Benjamin Alire Saenz. I had the privilege of interviewing him live/face-to-face as part of the White Ravens Festival in Munich back in 2017. My review of this book here: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7KH

Book 147
Last Night I Sang to the Monster is a stream-of- consciousness book written from the perspective of a 17 year-old boy in rehab. His story is depressing but hope and beauty emanate through the relationships he forms. The writing is more messy than cerebral. The ill-defined monster metaphor and amateur poetry highlight the dissatisfied potential. If this had been my first book by Benjamin Alire Saenz, I think it may have also been my last.

My book of the day from the Author who brought Aristotle and Dante is Last night I sang to the monster By Benjamin Alire Saenz.

Last Night I Sang to the Monster was chosen as one of the Top Ten YA Books of Fiction in 2010.Zach is eighteen, bright, and articulate. He's also an alcoholic, in rehab instead of high school, but he doesn't remember how he got there. What's up with that?

#OctoberXFiles Day 10: This powerful, searing #MonsterMash of a novel makes one reflect on madmen, empty hearts, the monsters in books and those that find homes in people‘s hearts – fed by alcohol, drugs, anger, and the variety of things that allow the monsters to grow and flourish. I find this to be even better than Saenz‘s Ari and Dante. My full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-7KH

2017, Book 20 "Maybe he loved you."
"I thought of that."
"Do you believe that?"
"I only want to believe it if it is true."
"We won't ever know, Zach. Can I tell you a secret? Sometimes, Zach, all we have is what we make up."

Everyone always talks about Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, but this is my favorite by Benjamin Alire Sáenz. #LatinxAuthors #FeistyFeb
