Wonderful read. Really sparked my memory. Young ones should read as I get they can‘t believe what the 60s, 70s and even the 80s were like. Richard told them things and they didn‘t believe him . We truly have come a long way.
Made me LOL a lot. It‘s very Aussie but I‘m sure other countries could relate.

I enjoyed this book. Some facts of Australian life in the 60s and 70s was a shock to me, some before my time...others were easily remembered things from my childhood. It had me thinking 'oh, God, yes, I remember that!'
An enjoyable book for anyone who experience Australia in the era this book is set.

Laugh out loud funny, enlightening -being a child of the 80s and 90s rather than the 69s and 70s - and really well researched and written. Read wonderfully by the author. Loved it

My grandmother had a saying. There were good days and there were old days, but there is no such thing as the good old days. Glover‘s premise is the same. He explores the period 1965 (year of my birth) to 1975. His Australia is similar to mine. We grew up in the same city, only a handful of suburbs apart. Our parents were aspirational (mine were loving and attentive) but I recognise in his hyperbole some truths about. It was a racist, sexist place.

This is hilarious. I‘d really recommend the audio book with Richard narrating. He brings out the many nuances. I‘m giving this ⭐️⭐️⭐️🌛

CarolynM Is it intended to be funny? Most of what I've heard about it made me think it was serious. Maybe I just got the wrong end of the stick🤔 5y
TheCuriousHousecat @CarolynM There are definitely serious bits in it. The last section when he delves into statistics is definitely meant to be analysed. But on the whole it‘s a light hearted look at the 70s. His belly flop into the pool was a laugh. I could see those teenagers sitting about the pool. (edited) 5y

These are the books I pick up on my trip to Australia/NZ. Books are pretty expensive there so I tried to pick things written by local authors/about the city I was in. I'm excited to read them!
