This was a roller coaster of emotions across different ages and people. It felt a little closer to people I have in my life or had met in high school which is the perfect setting for a young girl to come tumbling into romantic feelings, new feelings and definitely new worries that come along with it not to mention when trying to figure out who a person is.
I just couldn't stand Cat. I know she's involved in the story but she's a jerk.

I thoroughly enjoyed this graphic novel about a teen from a conservative Christian family coming to terms with her own bisexuality, as well as her biological grandmother‘s transgender identity. I fully recommend this one. ❤️

I‘ve been so good for the past several months about not buying books for myself or bringing books home from the library. Well, last week I relapsed 😔

Oh, I loved this book SO much. Colleen A. F. Venable and artist Ellen T. Crenshaw's graphic novel Kiss Number 8 is absolutely brilliant. Protagonist Amanda is navigating a lot in her teenage life. The book begins with her recounting the kisses she's had (by number) and identifying the problem with the eighth. Then, we travel back to see the development of the story she tells. ⬇️

UnabridgedPod Amanda, her best friend Cat, and their friend Laura attend a small, private Catholic school. Cat is exuberant and pretty wild; Amanda adores her. Laura is much more quiet and sedate, and she's interested in staying out of trouble as much as Cat as interested in finding it. ⬇️ 4y

UnabridgedPod Amanda's father is her best friend--they bond over the local minor league team, their love for a certain type of TV, and video games. Her relationship with her mother is more tenuous, and Amanda just doesn't understand her mother or what she cares about.⠀⬇️ 4y

UnabridgedPod The book takes a turn when Amanda realizes that her father is keeping a secret from her . . . and that she's keeping a different secret from herself. This book is so genuine and authentic and beautiful in sharing Amanda's realization that her feelings for Cat move past friendship AND that her father isn't exactly the person she thought he was. The way those dual narratives develop through the novel is absolutely brilliant. ⬇️ 4y

Picked this up since it is on the longlist for the national book award. I really enjoyed reading about Mads as she figured out who she is and about her family history. Secrets always have a way of coming out.

Oh, ouch. This book does a great job of presenting imperfect, believable people who hurt each other while trying to grow up the way they think they should. Here‘s to finding your people, However long it takes.

Purchasing Kiss Number 8 was a product of an unexpected splurge trip at B&N (oops!) but I could not be happier with my decision. Venable‘s touching story and Crenshaw‘s beautiful artwork make a great pair. Great for both adults & teens. A nice, quick read.
