Little Dreamers: Visionary Women Around the World
Little Dreamers: Visionary Women Around the World | Vashti Harrison
5 posts | 9 read | 8 to read
The instant New York Times bestseller! From the author of Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History comes the highly anticipated follow-up, a beautifully illustrated collectible detailing the lives of women creators around the world. Featuring the true stories of 35 women creators, ranging from writers to inventors, artists to scientists, Little Dreamers: Visionary Women Around the World inspires as it educates. Readers will meet trailblazing women like Mary Blair, an American modernist painter who had a major influence on how color was used in early animated films, actor/inventor Hedy Lamarr, environmental activist Wangari Maathai, architect Zaha Hadid, filmmaker Maya Deren, and physicist Chien-Shiung Wu. Some names are known, some are not, but all of the women had a lasting effect on the fields they worked in. The charming, information-filled full-color spreads show the Dreamers as both accessible and aspirational so readers know they, too, can grow up to do something amazing.

Another great book by Vashti Harrison, this B explores the history of influential women around the world. The information is useful and intriguing, while the illustrations tie in and highlight the different kinds of work these women accomplished. This book would be an amazing add to elementary classrooms, and would do well in an IR setting.

Betrinag Thank you, @PatriciaS and I agree! I loved the idea of this book representing so many women and younger children being able to access and even enjoy the reading of it. 4y
DrSpalding Your article regarding choice reading is excellent and you should continue to use this resource. I love the series of books and highly recommend them for your classroom library. The English learner strategy is actually 28 but you are correct that it supports the idea of using biographies with English learners. 4y
AndreaEfres I have never seen this title before. Definitely adding it to my TBR. 🌸💕 4y

#AyUpAugust Day 4: It is to Vashti Harrison‘s credit that there are clear efforts made to provide representation of little-known visionary women from other parts of the world #EveryKindaPeople, even though a larger percentage of women still come from the US or the UK – although marked efforts were made to highlight migrant or native women from these countries. Book Fair Day 5:

We wrapped up the book fair today. And I managed to buy only one book. Plus a scented highlighter for Genevieve. 😆

This is just as good as Harrison's first book, possibly better. I love this. I read a lot of bio collections and this one is still about half women I was unfamiliar with, which is awesome. I learned a lot from these stories that are suitable for all ages. The illustrations are fun and cute too. Definitely would recommend, and I hope to see more from Vashti Harrison.

This is a great read. I was first introduced to Little Leaders this summer at camp read a lot. Then I discovered Little Dreamers.
I love how the author showcases women who were not afraid to take a risk in life, and many were ahead of their time.
