From synopsis- “A celebration of contemporary and historical women and girls, told through information, maps, quotes and photographs, bringing their achievements into the limelight to inspire children of all ages.”
“...the women‘s histories are divided into categories rather than chronologically....Believe and Lead; Imagine and Create; Help and Heal; Think and Solve; Hope and Overcome.”
Thanks for a fun month!
I had high hopes based on the women included and the pleasing layout. But no. No no.
It minimizes the atrocities of the Spanish Inquisition, uses a slur for the Romani, downplays anti-indigenous attitudes in the US (both present and historic), gets aggressively ableist with "overcoming disability" narratives... I could go on.
I have read a lot of books of this type, and there are easily more than a dozen I would recommend first.
#LiteraryLuck Day 24: HerStory shares the stories of fifty women who did extraordinary things, including Boudicca, Queen of the #Celtic Iceni tribe. As Fats noted: “HerStory is divided into five sections: believe and lead, imagine and create, help and heal, think and solve, and hope and overcome. Each page contains their background story.” Full review: https://wp.me/pDlzr-jN4 #WomenReadWomen2019
