Introducing a companion picture book to the award-winning picture book, The Journey, from rising star Francesca Sanna. When a young immigrant girl has to travel to a new country and start at a new school, she is accompanied by her Fear who tells her to be alone and afraid, growing bigger and bigger every day with questions like "how can you hope to make new friends if you don't understand their language?" But this little girl is stronger than her Fear. A heart-warming and timely tale from the bestselling author and illustrator of The Journey, this book shows us the importance of sharing your Fear with others--after all, everyone carries a Fear with them, even if it's small enough to fit into their pocket!

I absolutely loved Me and My Fear written and illustrated by Francesca Sanna. It really showed just how big and unstoppable fear can get and feel. Many children have fears that to us seem small but for them can feel overwhelming. This is an amazing book to talk about different emotions and how no one is truly alone in what they are feeling.

The illustrations within Me and My Fear are so amazing. The illustrator uses the size of white ghost looking creature to portray the size of the girls fear. As she becomes more afraid her fear becomes larger in size and prevents her from doing anything. By the end the illustrations show that everyone has a little fear they bring with them.

I loved the way they illustrated Fear, and you could see the way it grew throughout the book. I think this would be interesting and engaging for students as fear is something they likely feel, and it makes it visual which can be helpful for children.

Me and My Fear by Francesca Sanna was published in 2018. This book uses illustrations to personify the emotion fear, and they way it can grow and take over our daily lives. Details in the illustrations are soft, and simple. Through the book, the colors stay the same, and they convey the mellow, lonely mood of the story. This is a great story to show how we can overcome and live with our fears.

This RF book highlights how fear influences choices, relationships, and more especially when it comes to immigration. This is a beautiful book that tells the story of a young girl who moves to a new country, new school, and takes her fear with her. Using UDL Principle 9.2: facilitating personal coping skills and strategies, the teacher can simultaneously tell this story and teach valuable skills when it comes to handling fear.

gpraytor By also using ESOL Strategy 11: placing language in meaningful context, this provides an area where ELLs will feel safe enough to connect possible personal experiences to the text. A great way to read this book is aloud (RA) by the teacher so they can guide students with a Q&A about the two main characters and their relationship. 4y
gpraytor A great resource to accompany this book is https://www.edutopia.org/blog/welcoming-immigrant-students-into-classroom-sara-b... where teachers can learn more on how to better welcome immigrant students into the classroom. 4y

This picture book addresses the fear and anxiety that we all have and how in certain situations it grows too big to manage. There are themes of immigration and being in a new culture, but really, the story is more about how to make fear more manageable. A great message.
