Just perfect
This one I'm very excited about reading. I adored the previous books and I'm looking forward to reading this
Once I made it to the fountain plaza, I found a shady seat (socially distant from the slow walkers, who also paused there so the tiny children could play with the water) and read the first 40 pages of THE ASCENT TO GODHOOD. It‘s off to an excellent start.

Loved. It. The Protector is dead & her greatest enemy, Lady Han is in mourning. They weren‘t always enemies, however, & in this novella, Lady Han relates the story of how she met the Protector, the years in which they were allies, & what finally drove them apart. Yang‘s worldbuilding is phenomenal, the story of the Protector‘s early years is fascinating, & Lady Han is a strong, resilient character. A fabulous addition to the Tensorate Series.
I can‘t get enough of JY Yang‘s Tensorate series. In book #4, the Protector has been assassinated, and the leader of the rebellion, Lady Han drunkenly reveals to an anonymous interviewer her own personal history and her political and personal ties to Hekate, the deceased. Each of these stories presents a unique narrative voice and very cool take on relationships and power. https://cannonballread.com/2019/08/the-ascent-to-godhood-elcicco/
The 4th volume in the Tensorate series, where we learn about the rise of the Protector. This is the shortest of the 4 books and is a pretty fast read. I'm still really hoping that someday the author might give us some full length novels set in this world. The world building in these books is just begging to be fleshed out even further.

I love what Yang is doing with this series. I‘ve said this before, of course, but this is the kind of truly innovative and imaginative SFF that makes me excited for this moment in literature.
Wow, wow, it was just really kind of Sarah MacLean and JY Yang to release their new books on my birthday. Y‘all didn‘t have to do that.
Happy weekend! It is a miserable gray day here in Maine, but who cares? There are books! 📚
.
I read the new Kevin Wilson last night (SPOILER: I loved it), and now I have my book nest all set up and a few things picked out to read this weekend. (The second book didn‘t come out well - it is MONSTERS OF ELENDHAVEN.) What are your plans this weekend? 📚❤️📚
