The Living Blood | Tananarive Due
8 posts | 7 read | 6 to read
From the author of the national bestseller My Soul to Keep comes a riveting new novel of supernatural suspense -- a gripping tale that brilliantly showcases a writer at the pinnacle of her astounding storytelling abilities. Jessica Jacobs-Wolde has somehow survived the worst that any mother or wife could ever endure: the deaths of her husband and first daughter. But now, four years later, not only is the nightmare continuing -- it may have only just begun. Jessica has discovered the terrifying truth behind the legacy that her husband left to their second daughter, Fana...a legacy preordained a thousand years before her time and drenched in the powerful lifeblood that now courses through her veins. As young Fana begins to display unearthly abilities that are quickly spiraling out of control, she becomes the target of those who will stop at nothing to exploit her power -- and the unwitting touchstone in an ancient supernatural battle whose outcome may decide the fate of all humanity.

I liked this sequel fairly well. It delved more deeply into issues of good and evil, power and responsibility. I've been having trouble getting into stories lately so I'm not sure I gave this one as much attention as it deserves. I kept noticing whenever the narrator breathed or took a drink, which I'm not sure I've noticed on other audiobooks. Not a complaint---I actually kind of liked it, in a strange way---just an observation.

I have been super busy not sitting and reading, so poor Silo has had to warm up by lying in the sun instead of on my lap. Most of my reading lately has been audiobooking while driving or jogging or doing work around the house, including listening to the tagged book, which is long enough to get me through a LOT of driving/jogging/housework.

Great sequel to My Soul to Keep! If you haven't started the African Immortals series yet, you should (despite the lousy covers, I promise). Looking forward to reading the third one at some point.

Liatrek I just finished the first one recently. Hoping to start this one soon. 5y

After the nail-biting conclusion to the last book I'm both anticipating and dreading finding out what's in store for these characters next. #currentread

Guys! It's #blackhistorymonth AND #womeninhorrormonth so I had to showcase two of my unread Tananarive Due books. I absolutely loved The Good House and the first book in her African Immortal series, My Soul To Keep.

I just picked up Ania Ahlborn's The Devil Crept In and would love some other recommendations for female horror writers!

Book 3 of my #24in48 TBR complete! I feel like I'm finally making some progress, now that I'm finishing so many of the books I've started and put down over the last couple months!

I loved this one - a cast of POC characters with a plot that intrigues and enchants throughout.

Good morning, Littens! I've got my cup of coffee handy and I'm ready to start day 2 of #24in48! I've got a couple free hours before I have to meet my dad, so I'm going to do my best to finish this book 😊☕📖
