Fat Angie: Rebel Girl Revolution
Fat Angie: Rebel Girl Revolution | E. E. Charlton-Trujillo

More trouble at school and at home -- and the discovery of a missive from her late soldier sister -- send Angie and a long-ago friend on an RV road trip across Ohio. Sophomore year has just begun, and Angie is miserable. Her girlfriend, KC, has moved away; her good friend, Jake, is keeping his distance; and the resident bully has ramped up an increasingly vicious and targeted campaign to humiliate her. An over-the-top statue dedication planned for her sister, who died in Iraq, is almost too much to bear, and it doesn't help that her mother has placed a symbolic empty urn on their mantel. At the ceremony, a soldier hands Angie a final letter from her sister, including a list of places she wanted the two of them to visit when she got home from the war. With her mother threatening to send Angie to a "treatment center" and the situation at school becoming violent, Angie enlists the help of her estranged childhood friend, Jamboree. Along with a few other outsiders, they pack into an RV and head across the state on the road trip Angie's sister did not live to take. It might be just what Angie needs to find a way to let her sister go, and find herself in the process.

There are 86,400 seconds of screaming-not-screaming in every single day. Crying-not-crying. Feeling-not-feeling. But it‘s still so loud, you know? How can it be that loud?

This book uses harsh language such as cursing and slurs, making it not suitable for many young readers. Although, the themes of doing the right thing and perseverance would make it great for any high school student.

After a fight with the captain of the football team who had been terrorizing her all year, Angie sets off on a road trip with new and unexpected friends. A girl named Angie was being bullied through her freshman and sophomore year of high school. Her sisters memorial was being brought up constantly reminding her of the times they had together and what they could have done together. Then a group of students took a road trip where they grew within themselves and got to know each other better. Then her bully got what he deserved and she felt more comfortable going back to school.

The book is targeted at middle schoolers and high schoolers. Angie learns about herself through making friends with the new girl who is a lesbian. Angie finds out that she herself is gay. This book is great for teens who are questioning their identity and getting bullied in school.

This book is about a girl named Angie who had a girlfriend but she broke up with Angie. Her sister died in the book. Her best friend started to date her bully. She is not having a good time. Angie then gets beat up by the football team captain. This book seems really sad and depressing.

This story follows Angie an overweight high school girl who is very insecure of herself and the way in which she looks. She and others refer to her as “Fat Angie“. Throughout the story she finds herself love and worth after discovering her true identity. Throughout the story she is faithfully working towards finding her missing sister who disappeared from the army. Despite everyone's negative beliefs that she would never be found alive.

This book follows a girl named Angie and her struggles with self-image and the lack of confidence she has in terms of her body. There are issues of sexuality and just a girl finding herself with the pressures of society and family struggles (her sister is missing in the military). I think this could be beneficial for students in early elementary but probably middle school as there are serious issues, but seeing it in a book can be comforting.

Review:
It's about a girl who is obese and hates herself. Her sister goes missing in the army and while everyone in the family and community believes the sister is dead, Angie says that her sister is going to come back. Angie gets bullied by a mean girl names Stacy Ann and her “minions“. Throughout the book, Angie makes a friend with the new girl and finally loves herself by the end of the book.

Fat Angie by e. E Charlton-Trujillo is a realistic fictional novel for late elementary grades. The narrative centers on Angie, a high school student coping with her sister's tragic suicide, her father's deployment to Iraq, and the difficulties of being overweight. Angie's low self-esteem stems from being bullied at school as well. The tale of “Fat Angie“ is one of tenacity, self-awareness, and the value of true friendships.

Super cheesy writing made it hard for me to get through, until about the halfway point where the true story kind of begins. There's a lot of set-up but a lot of it is more of the 'you should read go back and read the first book for more info' category. I ended up loving the book regardless of this, it incorporates a lot of issues into a brilliant story dealing with self-confidence, bullying and ultimately, navigating difficult relationships.

Nute Nice review! 5y

the book is about a girl named Angie who has never been given a break. She meets this mysterious girl named KC, and her life is slightly different. While trying to live through high school, Angie is going through the hardships of her sister being MIA in war. Bad description. Full one here including TW: https://instagram.com/p/BhvN4LYDlBe/

It's the ultimate comeback from Angie's life. Read it, even the cruel part every girl goes through those stages where they must push forward.

This was hard to read. I'm a mom and I just wanted to hug Angie and make it all better. Wang, too. Poor kid. The mother in this book is awful. The absent fathers are just as bad. This story packs a ton of drama in under 300 pages.

[DELETED] 1409720085 Becoming a mom really changed how I looked at every other person. Everyone is so precious and I feel such a strong motherly instinct over complete strangers. Definitely will read this one. 8y

I've seen this poster online so much but it always makes me laugh. I've known so many people who ask about movies, books and tv shows and songs this way. "What's that movie where they're brothers and work together and the cover is funny?" "What's that book with the cover that annoys me?" "What's that movie that was a book but not really?" #funnysigns

I met the author last month at a conference, and she was SO cool. I really wanted to love her book, but I just didn't. The bullying that Angie endures from her peers and her family is so cringe worthy that it almost seems unrealistic. The writing is interrupted by the author defining or explaining her references, which slows down the story. Overall, it fell short for me. Has anyone read anything else by her?

CaseyTheCanadianLesbrarian I have heard mixed reviews about this book too! 8y

Couldn't do it. 25 minutes in and I was up to my eyeballs in fat-girl-book tropes. The only thing books like that succeed in doing is reinforcing beliefs that a fat-phobic society has ingrained in its people. No thank you.
