I had a pre-birthday treat yesterday afternoon: Mr K and I went birdwatching. My favourite of the day was a small flock of dunlins: little unassuming things quietly going about their business. 😊

Birds! Did you know that their feathers weigh more than their skeletons? They never fail to lift me when I am in low spirits and feeling shackled to a life's burdens. I could look at/listen to them all day. (Painting is a goldcrest, Europe's smallest bird.)
The Guinness is for later (I am on the tea currently), not least for keeping my Nan happy. She thinks I'm too pale and tells me I should drink Guinness to boost my blood. 😊
Mr K and I took this lovely book for an afternoon's outing to the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust today. It was gorgeous but it doesn't feel right to be outside in February without a coat!
For your viewing pleasure (or indifferent yawning, as you choose) may I present my duck of the day: the gadwall. He doesn't look much at a glance, granted, but when you take the time to really look his plumage has the most delicate patterning. 😊 #birdnerd
