A really thrilling book that begins with the hiring of an assassin to kill the French president and the making of his plans thereof. As the Jackal executes his plans to execute the president, "the best detective in France" is brought in to catch him before he can do so. The detective is always one step? or a few hours behind the Jackal. With his specially made long-range silenced rifle he treks around France waiting for his handpicked day.
Perhaps he just didn't have the feeling for faith. It seemed to be a kind of language, one whose gnarled syntax needed to be heard from birth, or it remained forever unintelligible. But he wished he had a faith now, some scrap of something.

Book 1/12 for #OWLsREADATHON2019
After the death of her mother Amity, 19, is left without family in the US and answers an ad for a mail order bride in Alaska. She then embarks on a journey to be with her husband. A romance novel without too much of the romance, Amity faces surprises and challenges that she handles with remarkable resolve and wit. The last ten pages of the book contain the climax of the century and a conclusion that was not 👇

An epic tale comparable to LOTR but much more compact. The author invents words for a faraway language in a faraway land complete with three maps. Wisdom is bestowed upon the reader as the pros and cons and the price of sorcery is examined. Sparrowhawk begins as a foolish mage but through seemingly endless trials and tribulations 👇

A sweet romance that takes place in Nebraska during the war in 1943. After training to be a nurse Lainie's dreams are shattered when she contracts rheumatic fever and her friends set sail to help the war effor as nurses without her. 👇
The author incorporates numerous Bible Stories into this novel, vividly illustrating the lives of Martha, Mary, Lazarus and later Jesus. The depth of McGerr's insight is amazing and so believable one wonders if it is the truth of it all.
The book takes place mostly in Galilee and begins there in the home of Martha, Lazarus and Mary. Later Jesus and the Twelve are introduced as he begins his earthly ministry 👇
The tragedy of Prometheus being bound to a rock by Zeus via Haphaestus for his love of mankind. The play is short and takes place in a single setting, the rock where Prometheus has been bound. Friends visit and share in his commiseration. Very profound. The story induces a strong sadness for the god who is punished for thwarting the destruction of humanity and gifting them with fire 🔥 and other things the gods deem humans unworthy of. 💝

How easy for one who fares in pleasant ways to admonish those in adversity.
For sorrow flitteth now to one and now to another, and visiteth each in his turn.

I tried to read the ebook version of this, but its so hard for me to read a book without physically flipping the pages. I made it to page 32, and I'm going to pick up there.
I checked for this book at least three times at the library and it was not there. When I called yesterday to request an interlibrary loan I was told they had three copies! I went today and there were 2. 🙌 one is mine. Reread.

I had to let Chica bite my hand in order for her to remain in one place. Still it took longer than necessary, I believe. #dogsofLitsy 🐕
Beginning a reread of this. I read it as a freshman in high school. This was the first Stephen King book I've ever read, and it's also my favorite! ❤❤ I'm going to try to finish it today. 🙏 for me. 😁
In this Secrets of Castleton Manor Library mystery Faith, the librarian, stumbles across a dead body -of course- with two of her friends, and together they solve the crime before the police 👮 do.
The characters are well-developed and Faith has traits we all probably see in ourselves at one time or another. The story adorably shifts to her cat's, Watson (Holmes pun intended by author), perspective.
A mysterious and easy read with 192 pages.

2. Idk they're all so pretty 🌸. Maybe roses, they come in so many colors.
3. The Giver because the boy has to hold all the memories of the community and spring holds so many diverse colors and scents it would be sad 😢 not to experience them all.
4. Allergic to: Dust. Drastic and rapid changes of weather. Places where books cannot be read.

A true mystery in which I doubt anyone would be able to correctly guess the culprit. The unfolding of events only enhances the confusion 😣 of the reader and dissuades one from aspiring to be a real live detective for fear of rendering oneself an idiot. A rather heartwarming ❤ ending, if I do say so myself. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Between 1782 and 1784 three attempts had been made to deliver felons to America. The Swift was turned away on her 1st voyage, though some of her transportees escaped, assisted in doing so by the Americans.

He was the only person acquitted during that March of 1785. Six were sentenced to be hanged: Maisie Harding for receiving stolen goods, Betty Mason for stealing 15 guineas, Sam Day for stealing 2 lbs of weaving yarn, Bill Whiting for stealing a 🐑, Isaac Rogers for highway robbery, and Joey Long for stealing a silver watch. The rest, some ten all, were sentenced to 7 years' transportation to Africa...

#currentlyreading + today's #libraryhaul-Murder on the Orient Express and The 🔥 Court.
Are you starting a book today? What is it?
What an adventure we go on with Holmes, Watson and two men from Africa whose relationship is strongly reminiscent of that which we see in Holmes and his companion/roommate. True to Sherlock this is a smart mystery that makes for a fun and at times guns-a-blazing read! Definitely a reccomendation. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oh my gosh. 😱Why did Peg have to die? So suddenly? The most abrupt (because there are other kinds, right?) stroke ever in life. And after two of his children have already died? This can't be real...Things like this don't happen in real books.😢😢
Then the Government had realized that there was even more money to be made by taxing spiritous liquors made inside England; those were excise duties. For excise had to be paid on every drop of spirits.
"All this in order that ships can sail seas free of mutiny, and folk on land forget their troubles. What a miracle is the mind of man, that so much cleverness has been spent upon producing stupidity."

Susa had risked everything for a dream that was not hers. That sort of friendship was something found not more than once in a lifetime. Some might not find it at all.

"But you behaved towards Ada as though you are convinced of her innocence."
"I am unconvinced of her guilt, which is not the same thing."

All of my reviews thus far have been "picks." This is mainly because when I don't like a book I simply stop reading it and forget to "bail" it. So-so books also tend to be "bails" for me so I must be more steadfast in reading not-so-interesting books in hopes that I may share how uninteresting they are with everyone.
A medical thriller with an action packed climax and very a satisfying ending. ⭐⭐⭐⭐4.5

The problem with real adventures is that they're never comfortable.
Over his arm he carried 2 soft, hooded fur capes lined with silk. " These," he said, "are to keep you warm in the high, cool air." Lisa gasped as she saw her own cloak-
...when you're jealous of the characters in your book. ?❤
The plot was interesting and well-thought out. A cigarette company is put on trial for the death of a man who smoked for 35 years and then died because of it. The jury is magnificently the main object of the story, and it was fun and interesting to see how events transpired. I stopped my other current reads when I picked this one ☝. ❤ it. ⭐⭐⭐⭐4.75
I got my card in the mail today! Thank you so much @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks this is going to be a great group and it already is! 🎉📚❤

This second installment continues the story of Mma Ramotswe. There is less focus on the detective agency and more insight into the life and feelings of the characters, particularly Mma Ramotswe and Mma Makutsi, her assistant. The story was not as mind blowing as the first one but nonetheless the pages kept turning until the end, which held a superb surprise! 4.5 ⭐⭐⭐⭐
