A man bangs a pile of dirt so hard that roaches come and eat him.
This book is completely bonkers, but it -does- contain a lot of discussions of evolution, so I think it counts for Evolution day of #startreksummermay ! Roaches instead on nanobots (if I'm remembering Evolution correctly...)!
I cannot BELIEVE that 20 pages or so from the books climax this character is explaining phylogeny and the rise of complex development to these sailors.
Only 5 pages later and that all went about as horribly as it could. Sorry, kids. #REALLYnokidsonYarkie
I can't believe that even if there weren't killer cockroaches in this book there was still a chance that every child on this island could have died in a shipwreck. #nokidsonYarkie
The roaches are now GLUEING THEMSELVES TOGETHER TO MAKE CORPSE TRUCKS
"The rats were cloaked in sequins of death; a nightmare scene out of an animal hell."
See what I mean? Hard As Hell. I already love it.
I think I'm going to put any quotes or direct musings from this book under spoiler tags because I'm approximately one page in and it is going hard as hell already and I realize most people probably don't come to Litsy for killer cockroach novel excerpts. Even/especially when they're hard as hell.
Next up: the first Paperbacks From Hell rerelease and honestly? I think the roach on the cover is pretty cute.
A couple of stragglers this week, but my #MarchMadness preorders are almost over! (Plus, bonus Spiderverse)
