1. CITY GIRL trapped in small town hell 😂👀
I did love Army Bases as a child -all that communal multicultural living.

"...[D]ays of rioting involving more than 3,000 people, three were killed and hundreds were shot. . . . [R]esentment of police from a 1966 riot, coupled with poor housing conditions, lack of educational opportunities and a feeling of neglect, created the rise of activism in the community."

This June 1977 shot of rioters really gave me pause. We still have so many social justice problems nationwide. Why do we do so poorly in this regard? Enough!

Mehso-so

A collection of photos from the Chicago Tribune's archives has a huge Instagram following. Select shots have made it into this book, which was interesting but not spectacular.

This shot is the main Chicago Public Library, before it became the Chicago Cultural Center. Even though I visited our neighborhood Blackstone branch weekly as a kid, I wasn't a stranger to this location, which was just a 15-min IC train ride away from my Hyde Park home.

8little_paws They call it the Metra electric now I think! 5y
JoyBlue @8little_paws They do now, but not when I was growing up. 🤣😂 I was staying true to the language of the time. 😉 Now that I‘ve been transplanted to the suburbs, it takes an hour on Metra to get downtown! [While I call Metra by its current name, Sears Tower and Comiskey Park will never change.] It‘s nice to meet an almost-neighbor here! (edited) 5y
8little_paws I hear you on Sears tower! Lol. I wasn't living here in the days of comiskey park though. I moved here in 2002. I've lived in a bunch of neighborhoods, now I live across the street from chicago in oak park. I love oak park! Never lived in hyde park, but it's such a nice area. 5y

JoyBlue @8little_paws One of my sisters lives in Oak Park with her family. I also have friends living there. Nice village! How's the job situation playing out for you? Hope whatever comes is wonderful! 5y
8little_paws I did get one offer, but i'm waiting to hear back from the other job still. I'm sad to leave my current job, but I just think it's time. 5y
JoyBlue @8little_paws Keeping my eyes crossed for you! 😀 5y
