Friends in High Places
Friends in High Places: A Commissario Guido Brunetti Mystery | Donna Leon
7 posts | 14 read | 2 to read
In Friends in High Places, Commissario Brunetti is visited by a young bureaucrat investigating the lack of official approval for the construction of Brunettis apartment years before. What began as a red tape headache ends in murder when the bureaucrat is later found dead after a mysterious fall from a scaffold. Brunetti starts an investigation that will take him into the unfamiliar and dangerous areas of drug abuse and loan-sharking, and will reveal, once again, what a difference it makes in Venice to have friends in high places.

Last week I had limited energy due to surgery. So it wasn‘t until Saturday that I was able to pick up the Donna Leon. I only listened to one chapter in the Karen White audiobook. My attention span was nil. I decided to bail on the #sundaymorningbuddyread due to a combination of limited energy, and the fact that I already didn‘t like the book.

Cinfhen Hope you‘re feeling stronger and more comfortable post surgery 😘😘 1y

I decided to go back and begin reading this series in order from when I left off. this number 10 did not disappoint. A tale of corruption in high places, three murders, a money lending scam, and illegal drugs, lends a murky, intricate, and complex plot. Satisfying because it has fewer pages than others in the series, so it was a fast and easy read. The setting in Venice always brings back memories of my honeymoon.#serieslove2023 #Summerendreadathon

My first attempt at reading a physical book one week postop. Largely I have very little interest in reading mostly binge watching TV.

Bklover Hope your shoulder is feeling better!❤️ 1y

Corruption runs rampant again in Venice in this addition to the series. Brunetti suspects foul play when the body of a bureaucrat who had recently visited Brunetti at his home with some not so great news is found outside a building. Brunetti‘s intuition leads to the darker side of Venice and the evils of money laundering and drug dealing. #192025 #2000

Friends in High Places is such a typical Brunetti case with a generous helping of corruption.

Brunetti foresees trouble when he is visited on a weekend by a Venetian government official who informs him that his apartment does not appear in the records and may need to be torn down. He does not foresee that the official will end up dead a few days later. Was it murder? The 9th book in the series is a standard entry and was interesting to read. The level of government corruption in Italy is mind blowing. 4.0/5.0 ⭐️ #2019
