Unfortunately on to my "DNF" list this one goes. I made it almost half through and just never got into the story. For me it had a good beginning and then just seemed all muddled up in a way by the middle. Like the story just lost it's direction and momentum that it started with.

I don't even know what the hell I just read.

I listened to this book for an hour, and that was all I could bear. I kept waiting for it to become interesting and it just didn‘t. #HailTheBail #BetterBooksAhead
I was expecting to love this book but 200 pages in and I was just honestly bored. The writing was lovely, but it felt lovely in a way that I was kept at a distance. I didn't feel anything for the characters. With so many other books that I'm looking forward to, I've learned to DNF as an act of self-care 🤣 Love that so many do adore it tho.

I don't get the hype or why this even has a mainstream publisher. Was it popular on Booktok or something? You can find better self-published books on KU. Dark? Please, there's zero depth or emotional attachment so it doesn't feel dark. Romantic? The courtship is more painful than the torture scenes. Comedy? A light tone and irrational characters isn't enough to make it funny.

I got 11% through this and there were some funny jokes, but most of the time I just didn‘t find the jokes funny. It‘s time to unhaul this book.

A reread that didn‘t quite work for me this time. I remembered enough to make some important things predictable & other things annoying🙄😬 I will continue with series though.
This book looked great, but after an hour of the audio, I find myself not paying attention to it at all. I‘m not sure if it‘s me, the book, the timing, or the narrator. Maybe I‘ll try it again someday in print.
I had been listening to this as background noise, and realized that I have zero interest in the plot. Cal is an emotionally immature, whiny punk, instead of a budding, confident Jedi. Merrin is an insecure, pining schoolgirl, instead of a powerful, self-assured Nightsister with whom trust needs to be earned. And the whole thing is weirdly horny; not that romance is not welcome, but it is too much a focus for how poorly it is developed.
