Geek Girls Don't Cry
Geek Girls Don't Cry: Real-life Lessons from Fictional Female Characters | Andrea Towers, Marisha Ray
4 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 4 to read
What does it mean to be a strong woman in a world where our conception of a "hero" remains influenced by male characters like Batman and Superman? Entertainment writer Andrea Towers offers advice tailor-made for fans of any age, outlining some primary traits heroic women call upon--including resilience, self-acceptance, and bravery. She provides stories from real-life women and figures from the pop-culture pantheon, and interviews creators of our favorite fictional heroines.

I‘m surprised the author (and the editor) failed to capture this mistake. The 2017 Wonder Woman movie took place in WWI. C‘mon.

CaroPi You should send a note to the publisher house! I hear that nowadays the editors don't check these mistakes as they used to. 5y

Even though I really should focus on my own books to complete my #mttbr challenge - I couldn‘t resist snagging these gems while volunteering at the library today. #bookishproblems #libraryhaul

Crazeedi Of course its perfectly proper to pick up a couple books, just on case you run out of something to read!😉❤ 5y

Interesting stuff 🤔🤔

Shley9225 This book sounds fascinating 6y
jackilynn @Shley9225 it really was. It shows how fictional females went through & overcame struggles/obstacles (ex PTSD, trauma, depression, anxiety, isolation) in an effort to show that women today are not alone and we can overcome our struggles/obstacles too. It shows a different side (a side that often gets overlooked) of these much beloved characters. 6y

Not usually a big fan of non-fiction but when I saw this on the shelf at work I knew I had to give it a try.
