This novel is set in a bleak future where humans are killing themselves in increasing numbers. It's terrible news for mankind, but great news for the Tuvache family who run the local suicide shop.

Poisons, noose, razorblade and the list goes on and on. who would have ever thought that all these tools of death would sound amusing? In this dark comedy, a suicide shop run by Tuvache family provides all facilities to make the death a success(oh! and they do not accept credit cards). The services that they provide to kill one's self are so innovative that they would make you laugh. Their persuading skills is just icing on the cake.

Oh God this one. It made me laugh so hard!
It's cynical, sarcastical, dark humor at its finest. ?
It's about a family that owns a suicide shop, where you can find everything you need to commit a successful suicide. And when you leave the shop, they great you with a funest "we hope we don't see you again".
Worth the read!! Jump in and have a good laugh!

☠️☠️ I think this is the first black comedy that I've ever read. It fell really flat for me. Not sure if it was the writing or the translation. But I gave it a try and now I know.

nickimags I'm like that sometimes with certain books. The first Little Old Lady Who book felt flat for me too and I didn't know if it was the translation or the age difference! 😀 7y
Foxyfictionista @nickimags Yeah, I know what you mean. I liked the premise but the execution fell flat. Oh dear...see what I did there? It's too early for bad puns... 😅 7y

Fun, quirky little novel about a family who are bewildered by the strange behaviour if their youngest child/sibling. In a bleak future, following generations of tradition, the Tuvache family sell the means for their customers to commit suicide. But Alan is a cheerful young man and fails to follow expectations like his depressed siblings. This is an oddly uplifting way to spend a few hours #christmastimereads #7booksin7days #book2

Just started this and it's, um, interesting. I like the concept, but I'm not sure this is my kind of book. We shall see. It's an ARC from NetGalley, so at least I'm not out any money lol!

Thanks to @KrisConstantReader for recommending this one. This is a wicked book with a horrible cover. The world is in a state of chaos and people are killing themselves. The shop is there for their needs. Think Aadams Family type humor with lots of death jokes. The idea of joy overcoming darkness was so interesting. I kinda liked this one. Apparently there is a 2012 movie too that I now want to see.

KrisConstantReader Glad you read it! So...the ending? 8y
NerdyRev It was very French, in that it ends on a down note. Alan was joy and happiness in a depressed world. His whole purpose was to spread that to his family, who are now going to spread it to society. His mission was done and he was no longer needed so he let go. One could imagine the family would now stay happy in his honor. That is how I took it. He took his family's darkness to the grave. Very French. 8y
KrisConstantReader Thanks, I really needed that, lol. Just couldn't wrap my head around that ending. 8y

Has anyone read this one? If not, can someone PLEASE read it and explain the ending to me? It's a very short book, available on Netgalley, you can use it to bring your % up. This is a highly original, dark comedy, enjoyable read. 🌟🌟🌟🌟4 Stars.

NerdyRev I'll request it. Sounds fun. 8y
KrisConstantReader @NerdyRev awesome, thanks. I liked it but that ending is just driving me crazy, let me know if you read it. 8y
Zelma I read it quite awhile ago so I had to look up my old GR review. Apparently I thought the book was confusing and muddled at the end. 🙄 I am no help. 8y
KrisConstantReader @Zelma oh darn! I liked the book but the ending came out of nowhere, I'm dying to hear what others thought of it, particularly the ending and what it meant. 8y

Picked this up on a whim today - "quirky black comedy" is definitely the best way to describe it.

This was a quirky, quick read. Set in the future, the world has gone to shit and everyone is killing themselves. Darkly funny and touchingly sweet, I really enjoyed this! Translated from French to English by Sue Dyson. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

SavidgeReads I thought this was brilliant. 9y
