Now I have all three!
I opted to get Felicia Yap‘s Yesterday in Malay because frankly it cost a third of the trade paperback and I‘m poor. The translated novels from Fixi actually isn‘t too bad and I need to brush up on my Malay. Almost halfway through. Interesting premise but a little cliche, I feel.
It was ok I guess. Didn‘t live up to the hype for me. 🤷🏻♀️
I think my review of this book is going to end up being “old man trying to get shit done but keeps getting interrupted by neighbours”.
Kick ALL the things.
A bit of reading and lunch while waiting for my car to get a long overdue wash and vacuum.
Current read. Still reading, which is a feat in itself these days.
Stuck here for weeks. Not sure if I can take any more. Pls send help. Preferably fire.
Nobody cares what you think after 2017.
Okay, I‘m here. Point me towards the hand basket.
I‘m completely regressive as I read this page. It‘s 32 degrees here.
Won‘t lie. It feels like I‘ve joined a cult. I‘ve been tracking down a copy of this for years since I stumbled upon Poe‘s Haunted album. Found it about five years ago but never got around to reading it. Now that MZD has started an official book club, I hope to get around to reading it. First time with a book club of any kind too! If you‘re interested, look up the official author‘s page on Facebook. #houseofleaves #houseofleavesbookclub
Finally braved the ugly crying and finished this early in in the year of the doggo. It‘s an interesting way to think about the purpose of a dog‘s soul.
Running from Tibet with yaks to seek out the Dalai Lama in exile? Yes please. A quick breezy read set in a difficult time. Not something I'd usually pick up but I was intrigued by the unusual setting.
This is not the same book in the title but it will have to do for now while waiting for it to get approved. Just got handed this by one of the authors to review. Official launch is next week. Have you heard of this festival?
Hands up, anyone else who get a little rush whenever your request to read gets approved by #netgalley. I've heard of the musical but I don't know what it's about cept that it's wildly successful. Maybe this will fix that.
I've abandoned this for months! Reading fatigue, as blasphemous as it sounds. But I just finished a story and have two more to go!
I was planning to go out for breakfast and to find a writing nook, but I started reading this and now everything is on hold until I finish. #netgalley
I completely blame fellow Litsians for the first book, which I definitely bought for the cover.
The one I have is 9, but hey, bring it.
Re-reading this. Sometimes I need something fun and easy to get back into the habit!
After reading so much garbage poetry books that are ragingly popular with the masses now, Melizarani is refreshing to the fellow spoken poet's soul. This book peels back the layers around the world of a Malaysian Indian woman with both keen word-fu and an unapologetic candidness. Her pieces about issues faced by the country and our people strike a chord. 10/10 will buy copies for friends. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
From 'my country is a man'. And I'm having a meltdown after reading this piece.
Looooord I LOL'ed so hard, I could not function for a while. From "to the macha who got away".
After trying to slog through that last "poetry" book, this is where my world starts making sense again. A commentary on the Allah controversy in Malaysia. It gets better but you have to get the book.
50 pages in and I was done. So many books, too little time.
It's bedtime so time for stories. I unearthed this while sorting out my shelves (finally!). I'm probably going to give it away but I feel compelled to read it again first. Taboo is another book that got buried and I really should finish it and return it to its owner!
For #funfridayphoto, I've been obsessed with getting this book for some reason I can't remember now. Picked it up at a book market and now it's sitting there.
Can a lesbian porn graphic novel be fun and cute to someone who isn't at all into lesbian porn? Apparently so. #NetGalley
I like the art, and the story is enjoyable although predictable. This galley had pages missing here and there so continuity is shot in my case. #NetGalley
This had a promising premise but I'm finding the quick-switching multiple POVs very irritating.
Not terrible. Not bloody fantastic either. I have a weakness for writers as a characters, even more so the ones quoting Poe. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ #netgalley
Wonder if I can hit 200%?
