Al Capone Shines My Shoes (Bound for Schools & Libraries)
Al Capone Shines My Shoes (Bound for Schools & Libraries) | Gennifer Choldenko

What do you do when your neighbors are a bunch of hit men, con men, and mad dog murderers? Well, if you're Moose Flanagan, you ask the most notorious convict of them all, Al Capone, for help. But when that convict comes through for you - and then asks you for a favor in return - suddenly it's a whole different ball game. Picking up where the Newbery Honor winning "Al Capone Does My Shirts" left off, this lively second romp featuring Moose, his friends, and some of Alcatraz's "finest" is just as satisfying as the first.

May #wrapup

May was a great month for middle grade reads! I adored the Al Capone books and they were my favorite of the month.

BarbaraJean How was the E.L. Konigsburg? I haven‘t seen that title before! 2y
mrp27 @BarbaraJean I enjoyed it. It felt a little mature for a mg title but it‘s certainly worth a read. 2y

Final read for #middlegardemay completed. I adore this series set at Alcatraz. There‘s plenty of interesting tidbits about living on the island in the 1930‘s that the author researched and then there are the lovable kids of the rock and their crazy shenanigans. A bit mysterious, heartfelt and good fun.

Entertaining, heartfelt, exciting sequel. My son gives it a strong 5 out of 5. I agree.

Just as good as book 1 in the series. A cute middle-grade historical fiction story that has realistic relationships among a group of kids living on Alcatraz.

"Moose," Annie asks ... "If you were to get married, how many kids would you want?" ... "Would they all play baseball?"
I shrug. "Why else would you have kids?"

Girls are impossible. Once they decide something, that's it. Guys make deals, make compromises, make things work. Girls just make trouble.

Just getting into book 2 of this series. I love the mc's voice and the first book's portrayal of a family living with a child with autism.
