It is a dangerous world that Lilly lives in. The walking dead lurk in every corner, massacring anyone they can get their hands on. Nowhere is safe. But when a terrifying ordeal leaves numerous dead, Lilly and her companions are forced out of their tented community and into the open. Safety seems to come in the form of Woodbury, a gated compound with food and protection. Yet its not long before the wanton dangers of Woodbury reveal themselves, and the Governors despotic rule of the compound threatens to undermine everything Lilly believes in. Because sometimes the dead aren't the biggest threat. Its the living . . . So good!

I only thought the Governor was a despicable human in the comics, but the behind the scenes look we get into Woodbury in this novel makes him so much worse. Lots of action, lots of character development, and a story that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time.

The story of lily and how she came to Woodbury, although I'm pretty sure in the series she was once with rick and his group this book was slow to start for that reason, but gets really amazing towards the middle to end

This was a good, fun read if you are into the walking dead. A nice extended universe book that adds some untold tales from either the comic or the tv show. This did take me back to the place in both the comic and show where the governor came on the scene and you thought "what a horrible villain." Now that Negan is here, we had no idea how much worse it cold get. The governor is a cuddly teddy bear compared to Negan.

Mehso-so

I got this book in a double feature. I loved "Rise of the Governer" and finished it fairly quickly. This book took me over a year to finish. To be honest, the first half is pretty boring but the last 2/3 of the book had my attention. I'm not sure whether or not I recommend this book or not at this point. When I start the next one, I may update this one.

These novels are a good addition to the continuity of the graphic novels (and in parts the TV show) Interesting to see how The Governor became the man we love to hate. Not as good as the first book in the series but still a well written expansion to the world Kirkham created.
