Such a beautiful book. It's a book for all age groups, not just for grades 5-8

This is a lovely story about the author‘s mother. It‘s an interesting book for an American to read, because it‘s an immigration story in reverse (to us). May grew up in America until her parents decide to move back to Japan. She isn‘t fitting in and just wants to go back to California. But when she runs away to the big city, her life takes a different direction. 😊 #ChildrensLitClass

The story of the author‘s mother‘s experience growing up in San Francisco, then moving back to Japan with her family. The illustrations are realistic and really add to the story, which is geared more towards an older elementary student. I love the exploration of the meaning of “home”.

HKGirl I love this book so much. I grew up as a "third culture kid" so I really resonate with the two cultures dilemma. 5y
