This wonderful HF picture book explains the life of a young girl and her brother who meet the spirit of Harriet Tubman. Harriet takes them on a journey in regards to her life and her work with the underground railroad. This book would align really well with an AS because the author of this book has written many other award winning books just like this one! #ucflae3414su20

bsiqueira https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/aunt-harriet‘s-underground-railr... This website provides fantastic lessons what can be incorporated with this book. The activities align beautifully with the information about Harriet. The UDL strategy that would fit with this story is 3.1 “Activate or supply background knowledge.” Talk to the students about what they know and remember about Harriet. 4y
bsiqueira The ESOL strategy 30 “Encourage the use of diagrams and drawings as aids to identify concepts and seeing relationships” would fit in terms of having the students connect with what Harriet Tubman has gone through and what the little boy and girl are going through. 4y
DrSpalding This is a beautiful book. Your description along with the universal design and English learner strategies are thoughtful and detailed. 4y

This Jane Adams award winning picture book demonstrates the history of Harriet Tubman and her work with the underground railroad in a story about a girls journey to find her brother. The HF book would be great to use as an AS because the author, Faith Ringgold, has many other books and also has many other interesting accomplishments. https://www.rif.org/literacy-central/book/aunt-harriet‘s-underground-railr...

leximcmillin This is a good resource to use when implementing this book into your classroom because it includes many activities and printables that align with the book. A UDL principle that goes with this book is 3.1, Activate or supply background knowledge, because students most likely will already know a bit about the history of Harriet Tubman when they read this book. An EL strategy that could go with this book is 4. Link lesson to students prior knowledge. 5y
DrSpalding Reading is fundamental is an excellent site. You are selecting high-quality books that can be used in a variety of content areas. Specifically some of your recent posts have connections to social studies. 5y
