Hobbit (Graphic Novel): An Illustrated Edition of the Fantasy Classic
Hobbit (Graphic Novel): An Illustrated Edition of the Fantasy Classic | J R R Tolkien
AN ILLUSTRATED EDITION OF THE FANTASY CLASSIC WITH SIX NEW PAGES OF ILLUSTRATIONS! First published in the United States more than seventy-five years ago, J.R.R. Tolkien s "The Hobbit "is one of the best-loved books of all time. Now a blockbuster film by Peter Jackson, Academy Award winning director of the Lord of the Rings trilogy, "The Hobbit" was also adapted into a fully painted graphic novel, a classic in its own right, presented here in a new expanded edition. When Thorin Oakenshield and his band of dwarves embark upon a dangerous quest to reclaim stolen treasure from the evil dragon Smaug, Gandalf the wizard suggests an unlikely accomplice: Bilbo Baggins, a quiet and contented hobbit. Along the way, the company faces trolls, goblins, giant spiders, and worse. But in the end it is Bilbo alone who must face the most dreaded dragon in all Middle-earth and a destiny that waits in the dark caverns beneath the Misty Mountains, where a twisted creature known as Gollum jealously guards a precious magic ring."

Mehso-so

As much as I love the story of The Hobbit, this was only okay. I enjoyed the art style and seeing the story represented visually, but there was a lot of explanatory text crammed into very small spaces with a font that was really hard to read. I‘m not sure The Hobbit was adapted very well in this particular graphic novel. But I found myself just looking at the pictures to tell the story rather than trying to read the descriptions. #bookspinbingo

RainyDayReading @TheAromaofBooks I believe this was my #doublespin for the month! 4y

Behold my #bookspin and #doublespin 😅 I feel like I‘m just cheating this month by using graphic novels but NaNoWriMo takes precedence over everything else for the moment. Looking forward to reading these! @TheAromaofBooks

TheAromaofBooks Hey, it's not cheating if they're books you want to read!!! Good luck with NaNoWriMo!!! 4y

$2 goodwill find! There‘s a little water damage on some of the pages but the illustrations are fantastic!

From what I can tell this edition is pretty rare. Woohoo!

Pickpick

A faithful rendition, though it naturally loses some of the richness of the book. Wenzel's artwork is certainly proficient, and I enjoyed the look of his watercolour technique but (you knew there was a but coming!) I was less enamoured of his characterisations. Bilbo looked a little too homely - perhaps an indication of my own prejudice in regard to what a 'heroic protagonist' should look like - the elves not ethereal or other-worldly enough. 👇👇

Bookwomble Gandalf and the dwarves were very good, though, and the illustration of Smaug on page 101 is magnificent. Despite my grumbles, this is a worthwhile adaptation and an enjoyable read. 7y

gossamerchild @JazzFeathers it's an illustrated edition. Very close to a graphic novel. It looks pretty bad 😂 7y
JazzFeathers @gossamerchild lt does look like one of those 'strage' things that only collectors love 😆 7y

Had no idea The Hobbit had been adapted for a graphic novel. Adding to my Tolkien library.
