Only 17 pages into this book and I'm already taking pictures of the text 🤣🤣

Omg, this book 😳😮😍💗💓💕💞. I'm not sure I can say enough to give this book its due. This is Rushdie at his best. Magical realism at its finest. Storytelling at its peak. This. THIS is the type of literary fiction that I adore. A modern retelling of Don Quixote told by a master.

Highly HIGHLY recommended. Possibly my favorite read of the year.

Thank you to #randomhouse for the #arc.

Well, that was...a thing 😂 Read this one out of sheer nostalgia. And it pretty much lived up to my expectations. I just wonder how much children actually enjoy this series.

This was my #readerschoice for the #BBRC #birthandbeyondreadingchallenge.

I *mostly* liked this. Once I got over my immediate and very long term annoyance with Juliet (does she ever describe her brother as anything other than chubby? That really bothered me), I enjoyed the book. I didn't think the storytelling aspect of it was particularly strong, but I appreciate what the author is doing. I loved the characters (except possibly Juliet).

Overall, I'd recommend this to teens and anyone wanting to read more #ownvoices.

Finished the #easyreader (early reader) section of the #BBRC as well! Starting from the top left and going clockwise: Popular TV character; reader's choice; nonfiction; published before 2000 [Frog and Toad are Friends]; published w/i the last 5 years.

Side note - the tagged book is terrible 😂 The photos/illustrations were OUT OF FOCUS. It literally hurt my head to read the book. 😖

My last #picturebook for the #BBRC ! This was pretty cute. A little girl and a penguin are good friends until they realize they don't like the same things. Then they are sad because they think they can't be friends because they don't always match. In the end they realize it doesn't matter if you and your friend have different tastes, you're still friends! Nice message, with adorable illustrations.

Even though this may have taken almost two years to read, this book was fantastic. So well-researched. And doesn't shy away from some of the problematic aspects of Victoria's personality and reign. Y'know, like her disdain for suffragettes 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️. Ultimately a fascinating, complicated woman.

This book. This. Book. I LOVE Caitlin Doughty. Her approach to death is so refreshing, in that she reminds us that sucky as it is to lose our loved ones death is a part of life and shouldn't be feared.

This was cute, and a tad bizarre. The two children, pictured above, hear a noise in their basement and go off to investigate. When they discover a hole tunneled through the ground under their basement, the two follow along on their bikes. The illustrations are fantastic, even if I wasn't a huge fan of the actual story. Not bad, just not my favorite of the #BBRC #picturebooks I've read so far.

Meh. Definitely NOT my favorite Pratchett. I'm chalking this up to it being dated, because there were several cringe inducing moments. This is the September book for the #OokBOokClub, though, so I'll save more of my comments for that discussion :-)

#pratchettposse #terrypratchett #epicbuddyread

CarolynM I think it probably is dated. I remember reading it when it first came out and being delighted by the fact he was writing about a game I'd been playing (very badly) - and that was a long, long time ago! 2mo
Iblu I audio read it as well for the #OokBookClub. I guess I am too in love with the Discworld setting but I appreciated some of the tricks for the interfacing between the two worlds. AND it helped me discover there is a Johnny Maxwell set of stories I did not know about!! 2mo

Gotta admit I was pretty disappointed by this one. It took me two years to finish it, and then I was surprised by how quickly it ended. I loved the concept, the story, and the people she wrote about. However, it felt very disjointed (I got confused by several of the topic changes; some felt very abrupt), and I was kinda bored. But don't listen to me, as this is purely subjective 😉

I rec'd this #arc from Penguin Random House. Pub date is June 11. Thanks PRH!

This author definitely has potential. I love how evocative she makes Chinatown in San Francisco and her additions of magic to the story are fantastic. More importantly, I know this book will appeal to a large number of people/patrons. It's a perfect light summer read with interesting characters, lovely food descriptions, and a satisfying ending. Longer review later.

gossamerchild The reason for my “so so“ choice is that it simply isn't my cup of tea, and I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. However, I definitely see the appeal and would recommend this to anyone who likes cozies (not a mystery, though) and magic- infused fiction (Sarah Addison Allen comes to mind). The recipes scattered throughout and her descriptions of food are definitely the strongest parts of the story. And now I'm hungry for really good Chinese food. 6mo
