Fantasy legend Michael Moorcock won hundreds of thousands of readers with his vast and imaginative multiverse, in which Law and Chaos wage war through endless alternative universes, struggling over the fundamental rules of existence. He's been implanted with a black jewel, through whose power the Dark Empire can control his every decision. But in the city of Kamarang, Hawkmoon discovers the power inside him to overcome any control, and his vengeance against the Dark Empire is filled with an unrelenting fury.

(1977, original edition 1967)

First in Moorcock's series featuring Hawkmoon, a warrior in a post-apocalyptic pseudo-medieval Germany, fighting the evil empire of Granbretan. Loved this -- it's pulpy fantasy adventure that knows exactly what it's about. Looking forward to the next.

This was my #DoubleSpin read for March

RamsFan1963 I've read Moorcock's books about Corum and Elric but not Hawkmoon. I'll have to stack this for future reading. 11mo

Afternoon ramen bowl, Vimto cola, and Moorcock's first Hawkmoon book, The Jewel in the Skull, being The First Volume in the High History of the Runestaff, which is another way of saying Nerd Heaven! 🤓
I last read this series 40 years ago, and have moved them around the country ever since. Time to see if all that packing and unpacking was worth it! 🤞🏻
Though Bob Haberfield's cover art for these editions is, alone, probably worth it.

Our poor pup is still in the hospital. I'm so worried for her but so grateful for the love our kittens have been showering on me lately.
