This was a fascinating and entertaining read. We follow the misadventures of Rutherford who trying to escape an arranged marriage in exchange for paying off his debits stowaways unwittingly on board a ship bound for Africa to to pick up slaves and a secret cargo. The plot and characters are all interesting with a satisfying ending I couldn‘t have predicted. I would definitely recommend this book. #blitsyhistorymonth

Paraphrase hastily recorded and only accurate in my faulty mind: "Some books are hard, but they're worth it and Moby Dick is one of those." Johnson really wants everyone to read Moby Dick. Maybe I should have tagged that book. #tfob

#publishedinthe1990s #retroreads Published in 1990, but I just finished it so good timing! Middle Passage tells the story of slavery in America through a "Moby Dick-esque" voyage of a slave ship in the 1830's. Johnson's writing is absolutely gripping and I had a hard time putting it down. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
