This is such an interesting book! ( @Crazeedi I think you would like the historical bits about the Pelagians) 📸 by Rebecca of aclotheshorse

Inner monologue of a Celtic pagan who becomes a Druid then a nun. I don‘t know why.

This is everything I hate in historical fiction. It started so strong, but quickly deteriorated. Did Horsley do any research for this book? It takes 3 minutes to find the real definition of Anam Cara, but she made it into a “confessor or authority on cleansing the soul.” Nope. Try again. She clearly has no idea what Christianity looked like in this period in Ireland.
👇🏻👇🏻👇🏻

GingerAntics Why did she even bother to write about it if she wasn‘t going to do her homework? Ugh. #KateHorsley #ConfessionsOfAPaganNun #Ireland #HistoricalFiction 4y
julesG I'm glad I read this book aaaaages ago. I liked it back then. I've become more cynical since then, too. 4y
GingerAntics @julesG I probably would have liked it when I was younger, too. I didn‘t like how she wrote stuff off as “well I‘m just a stupid woman” or “oh I‘m just a sinful woman.” 🙄 It was so cliche in parts and then just dead wrong in other parts. 4y

According to John O‘Donohue. 👆🏻
Anam Cara is a two way street. It‘s a relationship. It has nothing to do with authority, and the only cleansing of the soul part of this relationship is the ability to unburden the soul to this one friend.
Confessor is a one way street. It is all about authority. It is concerned with cleansing the soul by Roman means (torture in the time period of this book).

GingerAntics It took my three minutes, Horsley. Were you even trying, or were you just going off of your own inflated misconceptions? 4y

1. Yes, it‘s called panentheism and it is a key distinguishing feature of Christianity as it existed in the British isles, especially during the time this book is supposedly set in.
2. Yes, in fact, that is another key distinguishing feature of Christianity as it existed in this time period in the British isles.
These were two of the main points Rome was pissed at the British isles for. These beliefs existed until the turn of the 20th century.

GingerAntics That‘s why Alexander Carmichael wrote his best known work, to prevent the loss of this rich tradition. DO. 👏🏻 YOUR. 👏🏻 BLOODY. 👏🏻 HOMEWORK!!! 👏🏻 #KateHorsley #ConfessionsOfAPaganNun #Ireland #HistoricalFictionInaccuracySupportGroup @julesG @CoverToCoverGirl @JazzFeathers @Weaponxgirl @RavenLovelyReads @Birdsong28 @KCorter (edited) 4y

Wow, not even close. Who is this author? This entire chapter has been a downhill tumble since the last quote I posted. WTF?! ... oh, an American author who writes historical fiction. Is this some of her historical fiction? She couldn‘t look up the real meaning of this word? She couldn‘t do her homework? This book is really making me cringe. I don‘t think I‘m going to be able to finish it. Sorry to everyone who loves it.

I don‘t either, but I know it‘s not a sin to not revere a chronic liar.

I‘m not entirely sure how pagan she really is. There is a lot of “Lord Jesus Christ” going on.
