Wherever She Goes
Wherever She Goes | K.L. Armstrong

"Few crimes are reported as quickly as a snatched kid." That's what the officer tells single mother Aubrey Finch after she reports a kidnapping. So why hasn't anyone reported the little boy missing? Aubrey knows what she saw: a boy being taken against his will from the park. It doesn't matter that the mother can't be found. It doesn't matter if no one reported it. Aubrey knows he's missing. Instead, people question her sanity. Aubrey hears the whispers. She's a former stay-at-home mom who doesn't have primary custody of her daughter, so there must be something wrong with her, right? Others may not understand her decision to walk away from her safe life at home, but years of hiding her past--even from the people she loves--were taking their toll, and Aubrey knows she can't be the mother or wife she envisions until she learns to leave her secrets behind. When the police refuse to believe her, she realizes that rescuing the boy is up to her alone. But after all the secrets, how far is she willing to go? Even to protect a child.

I really enjoyed this new Armstrong standalone. It was a fast-paced thriller and a really quick read if you're looking for a mystery to just kick back with and try to puzzle out.
The MC is a recently single mother. She's haunted by a past that she worries will cause her to lose daughter, but when she gets caught up in a murder/kidnapping case, she realizes she has to dig up that dark past to save a boy, and her family.

I have a love/hate relationship with Armstrong's books... but I'm drawn to them like moths to a light 🤷🏽‍♀️

ShelleyBooksie What do u hate about them? 6y
ShyBookOwl @ShelleyBooksie it's her characters. I often find the male leads pretty toxic, and sometimes her female leads are quite judgy and catty towards other women... I just wish there were more women supporting each other in her novels. But the stories themselves suck me in. 6y
ShelleyBooksie @ShyBookOwl - I hadn't thought about her writing that way but you are bang on with regard to her Otherwold series. I do find the Rockton series is better. I am really loving that one. I am also excited for the standalone you posted. I look forward to your review. 6y
ShyBookOwl @ShelleyBooksie I agree, the Rockton series was better for that stuff. I dnf book 3 though because I found it was really dragging. 6y

I‘ve been a big fan of Armstrong‘s writing for over a decade- across multiple genres. She writes fast-paced, twisting plots with realistic and dynamic characters! I had to make up for lost reading time over the weekend, so I started- and finished- this #NetGalley #OneSittingRead this afternoon! Set in a fictional #Chicago suburb, I couldn‘t put this one down!!! And I finished my #MayTBR a few days early- despite the weekend!! 👏👏👏
