The Flower Farmer
The Flower Farmer: An Organic Grower's Guide to Raising and Selling Cut Flowers, 2nd Edition | Lynn Byczynski
1 post | 1 read
The domestic cut flower business has experienced a renaissance in the past decade, thanks in large part to the first edition of The Flower Farmer: An Organic Grower’s Guide to Raising and Selling Cut Flowers, which helped thousands of small growers start successful businesses. This newly expanded and thoroughly revised edition will be equally as influential for novices and experienced growers alike. With the cut flower business growing at record rates, demand is at all time highs, challenging growers to take advantage of new techniques to prolong the harvest. New sections on utilizing greenhouses, recommendations for flower cultivars, and post harvest handling growers throughout all of North America will help improve their bottom line. Also updated is the acclaimed resource directory, complete with sources of seeds, plants and supplies, and expert information on organic production under the National Organic Program. For the beginner and backyard gardener, there is an extensive section on the basics—variety selection, soil preparation, planting, cultivation, harvest, and floral design. For the commercial grower, The Flower Farmer includes information about larger-scale production, plus advice about selling to florists, wholesalers, supermarkets, brides, at farmers markets, and more. Also includes revised profiles of successful growers offering behind-the-scenes insight into the operation of some of the cutting edge flower farmers in the country. Because of the extensive revisions and enhanced content, this new edition of The Flower Farmer is essential reading for those already in the flower business, as well as those who dream of growing flowers for enjoyment or profit.

Shameless plug time! I have been working hard on the website for my flower farm and it is finally live, so I wanted to share it with all of you. Currently we are only able to ship to US states. Let me know what you think.

Hooked_on_books @JacqMac Thank you so much! 5y
Hooked_on_books @Leftcoastzen Thanks! There are tons of varieties, even more than what we have. I had no idea either before I bought this place. 5y
Hooked_on_books @Cinfhen Thank you! Hopefully it will generate some business for us. 5y
Sleepswithbooks Beautiful! 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks These are beautiful!! These can‘t be planted outside and are only for inside right? 5y
Hooked_on_books @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Thanks! The plants can be outside but only if it doesn‘t get colder than the high 50s at night. And they can‘t tolerate direct sunlight or they burn. We only sell cut flowers, which makes me think I need to make that clear on the website, so thanks for helping me realize that! 5y
Soubhiville Wow! The flowers are amazing! On your home page on my phone it‘s a little hard to read the red letters over the red flowers at the top of the page. Congratulations on building a webpage! 5y
Laughterhp Wow, those flowers are gorgeous! There are so many options! 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Hooked_on_books how long to they live on the inside?? I‘m sorry I‘m asking so many questions! You know me and flowers and these are gorgeous!!!! 5y
Hooked_on_books @Soubhiville Thank you! And I totally agree about the red letters. I made the site on my laptop and put the name over the green stripe, but the mobile version buggered it up. I‘m going to tinker with it to see if I can fix that. 5y
Hooked_on_books @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks I love the questions! They will only help me make the site and the business better, so thank you. The blooms have a 2-3 week vase life, but I‘m finding some last even longer (the rejects go on our table, so I‘m trying to keep track). 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks Awesome!!! What‘s the appropriate cost?! (edited) 5y
Hooked_on_books @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks They are priced per stem, so it depends on the flower size and variety. If you‘re interested, give me your email and I can send you a price list. 5y
Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @Hooked_on_books loverofbooks75@gmail dot com thanks!! 5y
