This story is told like a storybook but it is a real story. I liked how the pictures was all over the page and the words were in the box.

This biography is great for giving a kid friendly story on Harriet Tubman. It won the Golden Kite award for best picture book. The illustrations really make the story come to life and jump off the page. The UDL strategy I chose is to activate and supply background knowledge 3.1. Most children have hear of the story of Harriet Tubman so you can activate their prior knowledge with this book! The EL strategy I chose was #4 link lesson topic to..

juliap99 Students prior knowledge. 5y
juliap99 This link is for story mapping. This activity allows students to create maps or graphic organizes to clearly state and see the main points of the story.

victoriamaria I love the illustration of the front cover! This book would be a great way to activate students‘ prior knowledge 5y
DrSpalding There are some truly beautiful and award-winning biography picture books about Harriet Tubman. This is one of them. Much better job elaborating on your resource and the use of graphic organizers. The interactives are digital graphic organizers that you should use in your future classroom. 5y

Minty is a HF book that portrays Araminta(Minty) aka Harriet Tubman as a young slave girl. It is a winner of the Coretta Scott King Award. First, I thought this would be a B but the Author took liberties in his writing for narrative purposes. The story follows Minty from being an indoor slave for the Brodas to being put in the fields because of her tenacity. She dreams of freedom and secretly learns how to survive the wild should she ever run away

DawnS The Authors Note also includes further information on her participation in the Underground Railroad. I would use this for IR and to introduce this interactive website on the Underground Railroad https://www.nps.gov/nr/travel/underground/ and it would satisfy both UDL 1.1 Offer ways of customizing the display of information and ESOL Use discovery learning activities. It would be a great read during black history month and tie into SS #UCFLAE3414SU19 5y
DrSpalding Another quality post. Great idea to use the National Park service website. Did you know there is a Harriet Tubman movie coming out this fall? Looking forward to seeing it. 5y
DawnS @DrSpalding I didn‘t know that there was a movie about her coming out but now I‘ll be looking out for it 👀 5y
