This book brings back so many memories! It‘s about a bear named Corduroy that is in a mall and he just wants an owner! He adventures through the mall when he realizes his button on his outfit is missing. It‘s an easy enough read that it should be good for IR. The link is for recognizing the characters in the book, it would work with younger grades. http://www.readwritethink.org/files/resources/ lesson_images/lesson30/characters.pdf #ucflae3414sp20

This P book contains oil tools little poems with cute illustrations by Silvers himself. This would be a good book for IR, it‘s not too hard to comprehend but after you can discuss the meanings as a class. The Ugly Duckling is a classic TL book that everyone has most likely heard of. It teaches students how your words and actions can effect others. This TL won a Caldecott Medal in 2000. This book would be great for RA because you can get the lesson across to your students. I have linked an activity that teaches about character & conflict in the book.

juliap99 multiple books on the subjects of Abe Lincoln and slavery. The UDL I chose is 3.1 to activate or supply background knowledge. When using this book this can occur because most of your students have heard of Abe Lincoln. #ucflae3414sp20 4y

This book is the cutest! I won‘t give away the ending incase you haven‘t read it, but I plan on reading this RF book on the first day of school with my students. The UDL strategy I chose is 1.3 “offer alternatives for visual info” #ucflae3414sp20

This fiction book is a relatable chapter book for your older students. The main character is struggling with your typical preteen struggles. I would encourage LC for this book so your students can relate to theirs connections to the characters. This book was a Newbery award winning novel and for good reason. The website linked encourages students to summarize the book by making drawings and bookmarks.

juliap99 The UDL strategy I used is the 7.2 “optimize relevance and authenticity”. I think this book is very authentic and has great values for young readers. The EL strategy I chose is #2 “promote cooperation in small groups” which you can do when you have your students reading this book in LCs. 4y
