The Murder of King Tut
The Murder of King Tut: The Plot to Kill the Child King: A Nonfiction Thriller | Patterson James Dugard Martin
13 posts | 27 read | 5 to read
James Patterson and Martin Dugard dig through stacks of evidence--X-rays, archaeologist Howard Carter's files dealing with the discovery of a long-lost crypt, forensic clues, and stories told through the ages--to arrive at their own account of King Tut's life and death. The result is an exhilarating true crime tale of intrigue, passion, and betrayal that casts fresh light on the oldest mystery of all.

Pickpick

So well written and researched. I am studying Egyptology and to see the events presented in a way that really brings them to life for anyone regardless of whether they have any prior knowledge of the facts is fantastic. My first James Patterson read but definitely won't be my last.

Meh. This just confirms my belief that Patterson is, at best, a very mediocre overrated writer. He tries to juggle too many plots here. Had he written about Tut's life, Carter's excavations, or his own efforts to solve the "murder" only, it would have been more interesting. Instead we get three plotlines that barely scratch the surface. 2 ?? 1/2

1. Going to the king tut exhibit at the science center. Woohoo
2. 24 but I'll get at least two more sweet valley high books done today
3. Winter, I hate heat, and all summer activities. Very much an indoor kid
4. Either tori Amos or pink martini...

howjessicareads I‘m just gonna tag #friyayintro to make sure other people see this! I bet Pink Martini was awesome! 6y

The only mystery to me is why Patterson is a popular author. He‘s a hack.

I know Patterson is a prolific writer and is loved by many, but this book was just okay. I had hoped for more. A decent, but not great, middle school book.

riversong153 He's not writing as much as he is co-writing these days in my opinion. I see so many James Patterson and (insert author here) these days, I think he's just raking in bucks off of his name more than his actual writing. 7y

This is pretty horrible. I like the bits of history, but making it into some sort of thriller narrative is just plain dumb.

It was entertaining but not a thought piece and certainly not a cornerstone of the literature surrounding this era. Read it for what it is...a James Patterson murder mystery.

I found the narrative good, but I have a problem with this book being marketed as "non-fiction," when it more closely resembles historical fiction. There's more historical accuracy on King Tut's Wikipedia page than in this book. The author also inserts himself into the story, which I find bizarre.

Mostly a comprehensive bio of Howard Carter, with excerpts from Ancient Egypt. 30% in. Very good so far.
