Sooo I thought the premise was interesting but the execution wasn‘t great. The beginning was really good and drew me in. By the middle I didn‘t really care about the characters anymore and just slugged through to the end.

This book is delightful. It‘s a light easy read that any bookish introvert could relate to in some way or another. Some times I just need to read a happy book or “up lit” as I‘ve heard it called. This fit the bill perfectly!

Readergrrl I hear you! Sometimes I just need some light in my reading as I spend so much time reading the heavies!! 3mo
riversong153 @Readergrrl Yes...I found myself feeling a little down and thought...nope! True crime and mysteries are NOT going to help here! 3mo

Finished this on audio today. It took me a little while to get into this story, but once I did, I was hooked. Chambers developed some really interesting species and characters. There were so many elements of this story that reflected current issues in a space futuristic way. Very interesting if you are into fantasy!

I listened to this on audio. It was good, a realistic look at what anxiety looks like for some people and how it affects them and their loved ones. I found many parts of this frustrating but most of it is attributed to the fact that teenagers are naturally poor decision makers in many instances.

Tagged the wrong book the first time! 🙈🙊 This is a weird, charming novel - a character study of several dysfunctional people trying to figure themselves out. Not plot heavy but still a solid read. My only critique is that the POV changed rapidly and it was hard to keep up.

“It‘s just that you come highly recommended,” Thorpe said by way of explanation. Meaning he expected something a little more polished for his money – not a pudgy Mexican barely 5 feet tall in mom jeans and practical shoes. These guys heard her name and expected Penelope Cruz or a lithe flamenco dancer not someone who resembled the summer help at their Beachhouse. 💜 that this description is of the best PI in this book! I loved this book! Listened on audio and the narrator nailed the southern voices...reminded me of my family from the south. The Texas Ranger was the perfect conflicted character that I like in a mystery. This wasn‘t exactly a cozy mystery but it wasn‘t heavy on the violence. I recommend if you like small town mysteries.

This made me feel seen on so many levels. I love that she writes in a readable way. She was told that she would not make it as an academic because her writing was "too readable" I beg to differ. It takes art and intellect to craft powerful messages in the simplest of terms that are accessible by the general public. I recommend this book for anyone interested in reading about black feminism and/or the black woman's experience in America.

CarolynM How can "readable" be a bad thing? Stacked. 7mo

Finished this last night before bed. I really like these authors‘ books. Since both of their books have two alternating narrators, I wonder if they each pick one and write exclusively from that POV. In any case this was disturbing and unsettling and I loved every minute of it. I recommend if you like the genre.

bsloths143 I saw a YouTube video where they said they don‘t alternate chapters - they video chat and write every line together. Seems so difficult, which makes it even more impressive that their books are so good! 6mo

Friends, I started this book this morning and didn‘t want to put it down. I just finished and I think everyone should read this book. I was not familiar with the crime that was committed against the teen in this book. The book does a great job of explaining terms on the gender spectrum. It also takes a balanced look at the two teens who had their lived changed by one seriously bad decision.

I finished *Queenie* it was a good read. The main character is extremely frustrating but I also felt bad for her. The first half did remind me of Bridget Jones but it got a little deeper than BJ in the second half. Trigger warnings for violent sex, domestic violence and mental health issues. Really great look into what black women deal with when exploring online dating and interracial relationships.

This book wasn‘t very good but maybe it‘s because I went in expecting something different. The author recounts a little of her childhood and adulthood not as much as I had hoped. She is a journalist and the book felt very much like a long article instead of creative nonfiction. I know it‘s a memoir but it‘s just a bland one. Her childhood friend was killed after they went separate ways in adulthood. Very sad but I just didn‘t like her writing.
