Jambo Means Hello, is a Caldecott winner written by Muriel Feelings with the pictures by Tom Feelings. This is a book to introduce students to the Swahili Alphabet. It also provides students with some East African culture and would be a great choral reading activity so that the teacher can provide guidance with pronunciations. #ucflae3414su19

This website is an article to provide teachers with a resource regarding the importance of using multiple methods of reading instruction. This book would lend itself to EL strategy #7 because it could be a tool for graphic organizing for students to create an illustration
to accompany the new word. UDL 1.1 would be customizing the display of information

SarynaN I love the idea of students creating a graphic organizer to create a sort of “label” for the new words that they are learning. I also like the idea of bringing a book that embraces another culture into the classroom. Exposure is very important for students. 5y
Summerm I've got to admit that I have never read anything like this, but it looks like it would be interesting and a great addition to any classroom. Bringing different cultural books would be great for any young readers to become engaged in! 5y
DrSpalding Due to the fact that this is a Caldecott award winner, universal design principle 1.1 is perfect! Great job aligning English learner and universal design principles to meet the needs of all students. 5y

Jambo means hello written by Muriel feelings and illustrated by Tom feelings. This book is a NF Caldecott award winner. This book introduces Swahili words to the average person. It would be great for students to be exposed to this language. Teaching strategy: RT. EL: offer a variety of reference materials. UDL: Use multiple media for communication. DrSpalding How would your resource assist you in performing a readers theater? Make sure resources and principles and strategies all align. Your posts need a bit more detail. 5y
