This MF book takes you to another world & on another adventure with Jack & Annie. The magician has disappeared and with help from their friends to a kingdom of ice and snow they come across obstacles and if they don‘t solve the riddles, Merlin & Morgan the magicians will disappear forever. This book, like all of their books in my opinion, are so engaging! Which would make it great for LC.

Wishtree | Katherine Applegate

This MF novel from the award winning author Katherine Applegate, wrote an amazing story of a “Wishtree“ in a neighborhood where they would write their wishes on a piece of paper and tie it to the branches. When new neighbors move in, there becomes a slight problem with “Red“ (the wishtree) and his occupants. (raccoons, birds, skunks, & more). This is a sweet story of friendship and loyalty.

This MF, Newberry Medal honor book is about a Gorilla who was captured in the wild as a baby. He was brought to the Big Top Mall and would bring in plenty of tourists to see the great silverback gorilla! He makes many friends who are other circus animals in the Exit 8 Big Top mall.

This HF book is told by a cat named “Mouschi” who lived with Ann Frank during the time of the Holocaust. The cat in this book describes her as being kind and loving. They were hidden so that the German soldiers could not find them. During that time, Mouschi was drawn to Ann. She would write about a better future & life for herself and friends. I loved how this book took quotes from Ann‘s diary and included real information.

The illustrations show a little boy on a field trip to the Empire State Building & meets a cloud who gives him a ride to “sector 7” (where all the clouds are made) they are all different shapes, but are bored of them. So he starts to draw new shapes for them & creates happiness & friendships.

This Caldecott Honor book is a MF about a group of frogs that let the pictures tell the story. The pictures show them in the water, later on in the night it shows them flying outside in a neighborhood on their Lilly pads, inside a home watching tv, & chasing a dog. By the end of the story, they are back in the water leaving everyone confused about the lily pads they see all over town.

This P, Newberry Honor book has a total of 14 children poems and are written about insects. This book is very unique because it is made to be read by two people. Some lines in the poems are even read together. I loved the illustrations of each insect that the poem was about. Great addition to any classroom!

This HF book tells the true story of what happened in 1912 with the sinking of the titanic. This true story have explicit details about the ship, the crew, passengers, and even a timeline of events from the time the ship took off, to the sinking. Even how many people were saved and how many were lost. Very interesting to read!

This RF picture book is an great story about a young dyslexic girl who had trouble reading and would be a victim of bullying. When her and her family moved from her farm to California, she met a teacher named Mr. Falker who refused to let her fail. He tutored her and she became a great reader and later became an author, who wrote this very book! This book would be best during a RA, TA, and could be effective using B, D, & A reading strategies.
