The setting is WWI which naturally makes for a confusing timeframe since wars are never straightforward. This novel also uses the approach of switching POVs between two characters. I thought the plot was slow to start, but hooked me enough that I chose to keep reading. It also offers the perspective of the people who survived and how life must somehow go on. If you enjoy historical fiction (particularly WWI) this is worth the read.

A good book, but not a good book for me. It‘s an important and little-told story about the aftermath of WWI and the lives left wrecked. However, the drawn out plot (symbolic of the waiting of war widows) just isn‘t my reading taste, so it fell flat for me. Up to hour 6 for #24B42020 !! #wintergames #impulseread ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Amazing book! It was a little hard for me to get into the story, but once I was past the first few chapters, I was drawn in and didn't want to put the book down. This debut novel is a winner! The setting is 1921 after the Great War. Survivors of the war are trying to mend and move forward.

Really good debut!! Still prefer the UK title of The Photographer of the Lost because it really gets to the heart of this novel. Not the silly title with the "wife", "girl", "daughter" in it.
