The Execution of Noa P. Singleton
The Execution of Noa P. Singleton | Elizabeth L Silver
8 posts | 18 read | 13 to read
A gripping, thought-provoking and intriguing novel about murder, death row and how a life can change in a heartbeat. An irresistible read for those who loved WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN. At just twenty-five, Noa P. Singleton was confined to death row for the murder of Sarah Dixon. For nearly ten years she has languished there, and in six months she will be executed. It's a fate she has long resigned herself to. But the victim's mother, Marlene, has other plans. With little time remaining, she visits Noa, intent upon invoking a clemency appeal. What can have prompted this change of heart? And how and why did Noa kill Sarah Dixon? As Noa tells her story, an unapologetic tale of love, anguish and deception emerges that is as unpredictable as its narrator. And two women, linked by murder but with very different goals, wait with growing tension for the final decision on Noa's fate.

1) Keep what I love - I reevaluate a lot, and I buy a lot of used so anything without a library sticker to the used book store for credit, anything they don‘t take or with a library sticker goes to the library to resell.

2) Anywhere from a couple of hours to a week. I read multiple books at a time so it really just depends. I can go for weeks without finishing anything and then finish 7 in a matter of days

3) Tagged.

I randomly picked this book off the shelf at the library and it turned out to be so good! It's a quick read that keeps you guessing how things really unfolded until the end. Plus there is a bit of commentary on our criminal justice system which I liked.

Bailedbailed

Hard bail. I made it over halfway, and I really tried. I didn‘t care and was making excuses to read anything else. A cereal box was more enticing. I didn‘t even google to see how it ended 🤷‍♀️ 2nd bail of the year (first was The Pornographer‘s Daughter) and I do not regret this decision.

I was pleasantly surprised by the twists, turns and almost all unlikable characters in this. The audio read pretty well, except for the overuse of the word "ogle" but I'd be discouraged with the pace in a print book, I think.

Panpan

God this was terrible. Incredibly overwrought prose, no sense of character motivation, just...totally weird. I wanted this to be so much better. I almost bailed in the middle and now I wish I would have.

MissSarahLou I also tend to finish books that I don't like very much, because sometimes the end will be redeeming or I just have to know if it gets better. Sorry it didn't work out for you. Here's hoping your next read is better than this one! 7y
IamIamIam Oh man, I just took this out of the library on audio. We'll see how it goes. 😔 6y

Not sure how I feel about this book. It was interesting, but I really didn't like the ending.
