A group of boys are raised without ever having seen or met a female to prove that the opposite sex is a distraction and hinders their potential for academic greatness. I had a huge issue with this idea because the possibility of homosexuality is never addressed. Out of the 26 boys, odds are that at least a few of them would be gay! If you can get past that, it is a unique idea and ends up being quite scary.

We finally made it home. It is nice to be back in our own space, but I am already missing all of the beauty, adventures, and relaxation of Guatemala. I didn't spend as much time reading as I would have liked to, but I was able to further explore one of my favorite places on Earth. I have all the time for books now that I am back home, anyway. Happy reading to all in this new year. ❤️

About a year ago a friend recommended TNT's Good Behavior to me. I couldn't get enough! It is so good! It wasn't until I was almost done catching up on the show that I realized it was based on a book of short stories by Blake Crouch. I usually hate reading the book after watching an adaptation, but in this case I think it made me love the book even more. The final story had me audibly gasping in surprise!

Creepy kids. One more reason not to have children of my own. 😬 Maybe it is just me, but the chapters told from the daughter's POV didn't sound like a child. There would be the occasional phrase that would sound child-like, but otherwise the language and knowledge content were unrealistic for a young child who has had little contact with people outside of her home. Otherwise I liked it, but it was hard for me to get past the inconsistencies.

Burghbookaddict I just started to think of her as more of a demon spawn than a little girl 6y
MissSarahLou @BurghBookAddict That is probably a much easier way to go about reading it. I think I was trying to make sense of a storyline that really didn't totally make sense. 6y

Modern Romance explores many aspects of dating in our technologically advanced age. I started dating my husband before the release of the iPhone and the many dating apps that have come along with it, so I never personally had to deal with many of the issues covered in this book. However, I still found it relatable. Regardless of your current dating situation, this is a really interesting book. Plus, Ansari is hilarious!

The blurb for this book is quite misleading, as it only explains what is happening for about a third of the book. The story felt clunky and disjointed. The transitions between storylines came at awkward times, and sometimes made it hard to follow. I probably would have given this a pan, but Darnielle's writing was enjoyable enough that I wanted to keep reading. This one just didn't really do it for me.
