Since I am now an Southern California resident I think it‘s time to explore the literature of this region. Suggestions welcomed!!!!!
TEArificbooks Definitely go to The Last Bookstore in downtown LA. And near by is the LA public library branch featured in The Library Book. 5y
TheBookStacker @mdm139 I live in Carlsbad down towards San Diego but I will definitely check those out on my next trip to LA. 5y
BarbaraBB I recommend this one very much, set in San Diego: (edited) 5y

Bookish_B I had a whole list prepared until I saw you live in Carlsbad. “Southern California” covers a very large area 😂 I second The Last Bookstore and the Library. You could make a day of it and have lunch/dinner at Central Market, a favorite spot of mine, and make a stop at The Library Bar. All are within walking distance of each other. 5y
JaneyWaneyB It's been a while since I read it but would recommend Bright Shiny Morning. It is a mix of different people from different backgrounds living in LA. Chapters are short & you want to get back to the character only to want to get back to another, I couldn't put it down 5y
Bright Shiny Morning
Ddzmini LA Times Book Fair! It‘s a must 💁🏼♀️ 5y
TheBookStacker @BarbaraBB I actually own this but have yet to get to it! @Bookish_B LA isn‘t that far from me I just want a general area spread from the SoCal area. @JaneyWaneyB thank you I will definitely check that out! @Ddzmini ah adding to my list! 5y
Christine I missed this post - welcome to SD County!! I‘ve lived in SD since 2013 but strangely I don‘t think I‘ve read too many books set here...will pass on titles if I recall them. I did really enjoy this memoir from a local radio (KPBS) journalist: 5y
Crux
Christine Oh, and just in case you haven‘t read this one (set in Oceanside): 5y
The Mothers: A Novel
Christine And also anything by local author Don Winslow, though much of that is set in Mexico and is SO intense and violent (not my typical wheelhouse, but I got into the audiobooks roadtripping with my husband and do find his books gripping and full of interesting characters). 5y
