An Enemy of the People
An Enemy of the People: An Adaptation of the Play by Henrik Ibsen | Arthur Miller
2 posts | 2 read | 1 to read
When Dr. Stockmann discovers that the water in the small Norwegian town in which he is the resident physician has been contaminated, he does what any responsible citizen would do: reports it to the authorities. But Stockmann's good deed has the potential to ruin the town's reputation as a popular spa destination, and instead of being hailed as a hero, Stockmann is labeled an enemy of the people. Arthur Miller's adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's classic drama is a classic in itself, a penetrating exploration of what happens when the truth comes up against the will of the majority. This edition includes Arthur Millers preface and an introduction by John Guare. For more than seventy years, Penguin has been the leading publisher of classic literature in the English-speaking world. With more than 1,700 titles, Penguin Classics represents a global bookshelf of the best works throughout history and across genres and disciplines. Readers trust the series to provide authoritative texts enhanced by introductions and notes by distinguished scholars and contemporary authors, as well as up-to-date translations by award-winning translators. From the Trade Paperback edition.

#TLT #ThreeListThursday @dabbe

This was fun, there were so many here I have not got around to reading and it was a good reminder, and by sheer coincidence I will soon be reading An of the People, translation by Arthur Miller. I am really excited about this one as I didn't even know I had it and found it in one of my anthologies as I was looking through the content.

dabbe Yay! We only got through the Cs, so more booklists are coming! Thanks for playing and sharing! 🩵🩶🩵 4m

This was my first year taking advantage of this free audiobook program. A lot of the picks weren‘t for me - they were more YA than I like. But these were great picks.
The first two were recordings of plays, and outstanding.
My favorite was probably A Night Divided - a great story not usually told.
I‘ll be doing this again next year - it‘s definitely worth wading through the ones you don‘t like - they‘re free, after all 💁🏻‍♀️
