I couldn't help myself. I had to get this book.
Into the Woods is my favorite of Sondheim‘s musicals - for the dark humor, clever word play, and familiar stories. So many lines are so profoundly perfect in structure. This book adaptation has the bulk of the musical written out, including many of the operatic songs with Grimm-esque illustrations. But the best version remains to be the original Broadway cast from the late 80‘s. Highly recommend.
The art lured me in, and did not disappoint. I was, however, upset with the story. It had way too much of the classic "Woman in the Refrigerator" going on.
