The Forest City Killer
The Forest City Killer: A Serial Murderer, a Cold-Case Sleuth, and a Search for Justice | Vanessa Brown
5 posts | 6 read | 1 reading | 6 to read
Dig deep into the unsolved murder of Jackie English and join the hunt for a serial killer Fifty years ago, a serial killer prowled the quiet city of London, Ontario, marking it as his hunting grounds. As young women and boys were abducted, raped, and murdered, residents of the area held their loved ones closer and closer, terrified of the monster -- or monsters -- stalking the streets. Homicide detective Dennis Alsop began hunting the killer in the 1960s, and he didn't stop searching until his death 40 years later. For decades, detectives, actual and armchair, and the victims' families and friends continued to ask questions: Who was the Forest City Killer? Was there more than one person, or did a depraved individual commit all of these crimes on his own? Combing through the files Detective Alsop left behind, researcher Vanessa Brown reopens the cases, revealing previously unpublished witness statements, details of evidence, and astonishing revelations. And through her investigation, Vanessa posits the unthinkable: is it possible that the Forest City Killer is still alive and, like the notorious Golden State Killer, a simple DNA test could bring him to justice?

⭐️⭐️⭐️ I didn‘t love this book. The author wants to find connections to many unsolved crimes in the late 60s and early 70s in Ontario in order to find The Forest City Killer, but the book sort of spirals about halfway through. There are parts that just don‘t seem relevant and there are way too many coincidences that seem to be just that. I did cry though while reading what happened to the victims so this book does have an emotional impact.

Thank you for all the goodies and books @mcctrish I feel so spoiled! I‘m absolutely in love with the edition of the Grady Hendrix you sent 😍 and Terry‘s Chocolate Orange is the best xoxo #CanuckChristmasswap

StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego What lovely goodies! ❤💚 4y
mcctrish The Forest City Killer is written by a local author who has a podcast about unsolved murders and this book is set in London, ON. I thought it would be a bit eye opening for you to see where I live 🤣I bought one for me too, maybe we can read together in the new year 4y
BookishTrish @mcctrish and it‘s signed!!!! How thoughtful! I‘m just pouring a cup of coffee and reading the intro / googling the author. It sounds fascinating and sad. @FantasyChick Have you read this yet? 4y

This is how I felt reading this book. It is complicated, and the case is one of the most convoluted, everyone is connected to everyone, sort of case that I‘ve ever read about. I applaud Brown for breaking it down in, probably, the most cohesive way possible. I hope that it garners the reaction and result that it is aiming for: a conviction.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

NikkiRobson73 I just bought this after hearing about it on the murder squad podcast sounds great 4y
StellaDz @NikkiRobson73 I just listened to the podcast ep today! I‘m hoping with the book and now the Murder Squad, that a result is soon in the making 🤞🤞 4y

This is a side of London, I honestly didn‘t know existed. And part of me can‘t help but think... where the hell did I move to?? 😳😳 #currentlyreading

alanacristin Right?! I read Murder City when it came out while I was living in London and excitedly told my parents when I read about my neighborhood yet again. They were not amused. Just started this one to compare with 5y
StellaDz @alanacristin omg I haven‘t read Murder City yet but it‘s on my list! I will definitely not be telling my mom LOL 5y
alanacristin I'm 80% through this now and have lost count of how many times I've whispered expletives of disbelief. All the connections between families and crimes and locations and all the banana pants behavior beyond the criminal activity is just overwhelming and astounding. I just reached my birth year and thought, "wait, there's more?!" ??? 5y
StellaDz @alanacristin I couldn‘t have said it better myself. Nearly finished and still absolutely shocked. 😳😳 5y
