Book 3 in the Whyborne & Griffin series Previous book: Threshold Mysterious happenings are nothing new to reclusive scholar Percival Endicott Whyborne, but finding one of his colleagues screaming for help in the street is rather unusual. Allan Tambling claims he can't remember any of the last hour-but someone murdered his uncle, and Allan is covered in blood. Whyborne's lover, dashing ex-Pinkerton detective Griffin Flaherty, agrees to prove Allan's innocence. But when Allan is deemed insane and locked away in the Stormhaven Lunatic Asylum, Griffin finds himself reliving the horrifying memories of his own ordeal inside a madhouse. Along with their friend Christine, the two men become drawn deeper and deeper into a dark web of conspiracy, magic, and murder. Their only clue: a missing artifact depicting an unknown god. Who stole the artifact, and why can't Allan remember what happened? And what is the truth behind the terrible experiments conducted on Stormhaven's forbidden fourth floor? It will take all of Whyborne's sorcery and Griffin's derring-do to stop the murderers and save Allan. But first, they must survive an even greater challenge: a visit from Griffin's family. Novel: 68,010 words. The Whyborne & Griffin series: Widdershins (Book 1) Threshold (Book 2) Stormhaven (Book 3)

One thing I love and this series is though it focuses on the two make leads it still has a cast of interesting characters. Characters that are developed as the series goes on.

Another great book and a series I will continue to read

The past continues to have disastrous impacts on the present - starting with a museum colleague found screaming in the street covered in blood - is he guilty of murder or is there more here than meets the eye? Christine continues to be the very best friend one could ask for...

The best reason not to have a loud argument when you are about to do a spot of B&E according to Whyborne 😂

Third in Hawk's mm romance/horror series featuring Whyborne and Griffin, a scholar an an ex-Pinkerton in Victorian-era New England. In this one, a friend is framed for murder, and sent to an asylum with mysterious goings-on. Meanwhile, Whyborne is having nightmares about a dweller in the deep and Griffin's family comes to visit with a prospect for respectable marriage. It's a fun series, and I'll continue it

Aaand finished! I'm relieved that Whyborne's insecurities are a bit less prominent now and more trust is developing between him and Griffin. I love Christine best, though! #readathon

Impulsively joining Dewey's #readathon because stuff's going on (rabbit in GI stasis, AGAIN -- it's Biscuit, for those who know my buns) and I need a distraction. I barely got started with this yesterday, so I'm going to go cwtch up under my weighted blanket and try to lose some of my tension.

jenniferw88 Hope Biscuit gets well soon! 4y
Clare-Dragonfly Oh no, I hope Biscuit feels better! And I hope the reading helps calm you. 4y

shanaqui @jenniferw88 @Clare-Dragonfly @rabbitprincess So far so good! Some improvement in Biscuit, and we're hanging in there. We only just got Hulk through a bout of GI stasis in August, gah. 4y

So very enjoying this series. There is serious character growth, although whyborne‘s insecurities can get a bit grating.
