This gets three stars for entertainment - but two for quality. It all felt a bit too YA and stereotypical for my taste, and all of a sudden there‘s a religious experience thrown in that was just a huge WTF moment. Many characters are too black or white (like the psycho dad - that whole storyline is just ridiculous!) and I forgot this book too fast to make me want to continue reading the series.

BarbaraBB Just checking in. Hope all is well 🤍 4y
tricours Thanks @BarbaraBB !! All is great here, I really should get back to Litsy though, I miss it! (edited) 4y

This book really struck a chord with me. I'm not even halfway through and several harsh truths have already been discussed. Despite being a work of fantasy, very real issues are mentioned in very real ways. Domestic abuse, racism and hatred, the disadvantages facing the disfigured... Yet through it all a message of perseverance and hope. 🧡

Starting chapter 11 today. I'm getting through this a little slower than I normally would, and for that I blame my second job.

I am absolutely hooked. It started a bit slow but before I could even blink I was holding on with intense anticipation. The main character feels like he belongs in an Orson Scott Card novel, and the depth of emotion the author is able to portray is staggering. 🧡

On to the next one from my Kindle.... Don't tell my boss! There are some days when my work is so monotonous I have thousands of pages running through a scanner and I can read while half of my mind is making sure nothing gets stuck.

Today is one of those days 👸

#QuotsyNov18 Day 17: #Premature closure of inquiry, indeed. I like it when scifi references empirical investigation and tenets of scientific research.

I took a chance on this with my audible credit this month. I had never heard of it before but it has excellent reviews and I like the narrators previous work.
If you enjoyed Kvothe‘s coming of age story in TNoTW or enjoyed the camaraderie of Bridge 4 and Kaladin in TWoK I highly recommend it.
I have laughed out loud several times so far and I am really loving these characters ❤️❤️

I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The character and story development is superb. Sure, some of the writing can be improved. There are moments that the grammatical errors are jarring, and difficult to follow.
But, the story itself has massive potential. It is full of thrilling and captivating moments. I look forward to the next addition.

RaimeyGallant Nice review. :) And welcome to Litsy! #LitsyWelcomeWagon Some of us put together Litsy tips to help new Littens navigate the site. It's the link in my bio on my page in case you're interested. :) 7y

My library had a book sale, so I now have a book haul!

DrexEdit Nice haul! I have a hard time finding any Neal Stephenson in the wild. 👍 7y
JamesChatham @DrexEdit I‘ve been lucky to find quite a few Stephensons used! Though, I do feel guilty because I own six of his books now but haven‘t read a single one... 😂 7y

A nicely put together epic fantasy! It's a lengthy tome, no doubt, but Renshaw has been able to fill it out without to many lags or pot holes. There's a compelling focus on how PTSD acquired through child abuse can truly affect a characters abilities, interactions and potential to succeed - just as in real life! There's also a soft, yet not subtle look at racism. I applaud Renshaw for taking the hefty leaps! I will recommend it to any EFantasy fan

Been a bit cruddy these last few days, but I've finally gotten out of the house for coffee.. Yay! Feels good to feel good! Listening to Dawn of Wonder, and it's rather funny, surprisingly.. I think the peeps walking past may think I have some 'issues' from the out loud giggling .. They're probably right! Home soon I think.. Don't want to push my 'good day' luck! 😄

James This book was great! 8y
bookfrivolity @James I'm really enjoying it! Only 100 pages left 😥... Lucky there's a whole series 😄!! 8y
