I really wanted to like this series. I picked it because I was really into @AmyStewart 's Constance Kopp series and I thought it would make a great companion.
Second Street Station is set a few years earlier in Victorian times, but I don't see the author allowing for that other than a sort of whimsical mention.

I wasn't getting the character development I wanted as well. The story bounces around among the protagonist, Mary and almost every famous person in New York at that time. It became a bit much, so I bounced too. 🙁 7y
