Whats the actual secret to happiness? Great memories! Meik Wikinghappiness researcher and New York Times bestselling author of The Little Book of Hygge and The Little Book of Lykkeshows us how to create memories that make life sweet in this charming book. In his work as a happiness researcher, Meik Wiking has learned that people are happier if they hold a positive, nostalgic view of the past. The Art of Making Memories examines how mental images are made, stored, and recalled in our brains, as well as the art of letting gowhy we tend to forget certain moments to make room for deeper, more meaningful ones. Meik uses data, interviews, global surveys, and real-life experiments to explain the nuances of nostalgia and the different ways we form memories around our experiences and recall themrevealing the power that a first time has on our recollections, and why a piece of music, a smell, or a taste can unexpectedly conjure a moment from the past. Ultimately, Meik shows how we each can create warm memories that will stay with us for years. Combining his signature charm with Scandinavian forthrightness, filled with infographics, illustrations, and photographs, and featuring Happy Memory Tips, The Art of Making Memories is an inspiration meditation and practical handbook filled with ideas to help us make the memories that will bring us joy throughout our lives.

Back in September I bought my first book by Meik Wiking ‘The Little Book of Hygge‘ and have been on a quest to create more Hygge moments in my life, especially now in this time of lockdowns. Today‘s #podcast was about creating the memories that can sustain us. #NFN2020

Book three In the Little Box of Happiness. I've really enjoyed the Little Book of Hygge and the Little Book of Lykke. They make me want to make changes in my life, my community. I'm ruminating on how to do that as I start The Art of Making Memories.

"We are all travellers – and we are all travellers in time, exploring the past and dreaming about a happier future."

I found this to be a good one to dip in and out of – good to even keep on one's coffee table. It's a guide on being conscious of moments to create long lasting memories, and eventually building stories that you cherish and love to tell.

goodbyefrancie I lovw books that can read in small bites, whenever I have time or whenever I feel I need it. Thanks for recommending this one. 5y
Tanisha_A @goodbyefrancie Yep, pretty good for reading on the side. Enjoy! 😃 5y

Worth It.
The best description for this book is “The Universe is made of stories, not of atoms“.
Basically, this book is about how to collect, grow and enjoy memories. I would say it describes the cognitive capability of the human mind and explains how it can be used to live the best life we can.
Memories are all we have, memories are what we made of, memories is the base for what we are. We should be knowledgeable about how to store it right.

So what are memories made of? Why is it that a piece of music, a smell, a taste, can take us back to something we had forgotten? And how can we learn to create happy memories and be better at holding on to them?

#Cherish memories. ❤️

4/5🌟This book is a gem! It looks at the science of making memories. Great memories being the secret to happiness. Delving into how our brains make, store and forget certain memories, and how our memories affect our overall happiness. So much research went into this book. And there is a definitely a lot to unpack, but its full of insight, guidance and charm. As well as beautiful photos and artwork throughout. #bookreview #selfhelpbooks
