Funny and short!
I usually like Kasie West's YA fare because she writes characters whose problems feel real/regular to me. There's drama, but it's not over the top. Like most of her books, we have a MC who needs to learn to get out of her comfort zone a little, find some balance in her life, and be willing to wrestle some of her inherent prejudices. There's also some great snark and fun characters. An enjoyable read, even if it didn't really bring anything new ⬇
This volume collects the scripts from season one of the absurdly brilliant Welcome to Night Vale podcast plus behind-the-scenes introductions to each episode. This is my brand of weird and I feel no shame about that. Actually, I feel no shame or really any other emotion…I am suspended in a jar of jelly that isn‘t really jelly, just the consistency of what you know to be jelly. Send help. Or don‘t. It‘s whatever.

This book was just ok, not really a page turner, not really scary, not a series I will be reading. It also wasn't witchy more a murder to be solved. I had so much fun interviewing Kyle and Jay during this months episode of Authors Spotlight. There is lots of laughs discussing their novel "The Dead Rock Stars" Listen or watch this episode, all the details are in this post. https://www.bookinterrupted.com/post/authors-spotlight-with-jay-watson-kyle-wilt...

I DNF‘d these authors before so I‘m not shocked I‘m doing it again. I‘ve never listened to the podcast so maybe I‘m missing the connection there, but these books are just so instantly and overly weird that the storyline (if there is one) gets lost completely. Your head is left spinning trying to figure things out and the authors are just throwing random, strange comments at you.
A spooky read fail.
🎃
Let‘s start my first spooky read of the season with my remaining Spotify hours this month, with Welcome to Night Vale.
I‘m two chapters and so far… it‘s … f***ing weird. No other words.
Set on an island with a population less than 100 people that‘s in danger of sinking into the sea, this makes for an entertaining listen as one podcaster/journalist sets out to explain the island & stumbles across a bigger story about the island, its community & its secrets. A few months before Anders ever sets foot on Frick Island, Piper‘s husband, Tom, a crabber, is lost at sea. Piper‘s grief has changed the island & each character comes to life!
I‘ve been bingeing the old episodes of the My Favorite Murder podcast lately, so I decided it was time to read the hosts‘ book. Fun, fast read, with autobiographical stories. If you like the podcast, you‘ll like the book too!
