When a murdered family visits a rural doctor's clinic, the underfunded surgeon has until dawn to stitch up their wounds in order to bring them back to life. But stitching them up may be the easy part as they break the natural cycle of life and death. I enjoyed this one, though it maybe could've been a bit shorter.

I think this short speculative novel is going to be a great one-especially on my 2.5 hour flight tonight 😂

I‘m crying reading this. I could weep.
This is the difference between those who try and those who don‘t.
As one who always tries, I‘m exhausted these days by those who won‘t.
As God leaves Cain‘s question unanswered, so does Saheb leave the pharmacist to answer her query. Her answer will leave its mark on her life.

Will I ever be so wise?

If you‘re looking for a quick ghost story to slip in before Halloween here‘s an option. It‘s spooks come more from pondering morality, second chances, and the afterlife than the ghosts. But don‘t worry there‘s ghosts.

swishandflick I love that cover! 😍 3y
mdemanatee @swishandflick it‘s so good! And it has French flaps 😍 3y

I‘m thinking about all the books I want to read yet in October—physical and digital—and despairing a little. What‘s everybody else itching to get to yet this month?

This was such a surprise read for me. Fantasy and especially Magical Realism are so not my jam, however this short novel was just so good. What a unique story.

Mehso-so

A renowned surgeon falls from grace and struggles to run a low-income clinic at the edge of a city, then one night three visitors come and need his help to come back to live. Interesting mix of medical work-life, gods of India, and a peculiar afterlife, all with a tale that unfolds gradually as the story moves along. The author is a doctor and it shows.

I had a copy of this book from the publisher through netgalley and it comes out today.

NovelGirl82 That sounds delightful! 4y

This was a crafty little story. In a rural clinic in India an overworked & underpaid Dr is faced with a moral dilemma that will leave you questioning what you‘ve just read. Would make for excellent book club discussion. #pop20 #MedicalThriller #Booked2020 #SetInIndiaSouthernAsia #ARC #NetGalley Not for the medically squeamish

BarbaraTheBibliophage I‘m glad to see a review for this. It was in an email from Catapult recently and intrigued me. 4y

I really enjoyed this weird, surreal, allegorical novel. It made me think about the ethics of medical treatment, the corruption of the health care industry, & the nature of love, family, career, and faith. I felt myself pulled along by Paralkar's disconcerting slow revelation of exactly what is going on. I received this book from #NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. #NightTheater

I was supposed to go to Small Press Night tonight and meet publisher reps and hear about upcoming titles, but when I got in the car it wouldn‘t start. (Of course!) Looks like our weekend trip to a wedding + the cold weather = DEAD

So I‘m reading with this goober to keep my frustration down while my husband gallantly gets the battery charged. Ugh. Life, man!
