Bailedbailed

I am pretty sure this is unfair towards the book but since I am reluctant to keep this back up for now about 40 minutes I decided to bail on this one. I am still interested in the plot but I don‘t know, I don‘t really find into it.

I have huge piles of unread books in my flat due to various thrifts and due to having gotten other people‘s read books, so I move on to the next even if I feel a bit bad about it.

Still not hooked by my current read. 🤷🏽‍♀️ There are passages where I‘m convinced the tempo will rise – but you know, about 100 pages in and already two double bottoms. The plot is not uninteresting but you really need to stick to the story and not pause too often.

Halloween is over so my neighbourhood supermarket has reduced prices for Halloween styled food. Above you see vampire 🧛🏻‍♀️ blood fruit juice. I also bought violet kohlrabi.

Come-read-with-me @Buechersuechtling So sorry the read isn‘t grabbing you. Some of Baldacci‘s books are like that for me too. They either grab me from the beginning or they are full of false starts. Hope this one gets better for you! Love the “blood” juice! 🧛‍♀️ 5y
Buechersuechtling @Come-read-with-me Thanks for your kind words. I just decided to try to continue reading tomorrow and if I then still not feel comfortable I will allow myself to bail on it. – And yeah, we were surprised how tasty the juice 🥤 is. Less sweet than expected. (And, since we‘re on vacation: it goes well with vodka. 🤭) 5y
Come-read-with-me @Buechersuechtling Everything goes better with vodka!!! Maybe the vodka will also help the book get a bit better??? 😁 5y
Buechersuechtling @Come-read-with-me 🤣 That I can tell tomorrow. 5y

I didn‘t come very far in here, which is why I don‘t have a feeling of having gotten into the story – knowing the characters etc.

The story sounds interesting and gripping, meaning I really _want_ to read it. Ain‘t got no real plan why I‘m hesitating picking it up or where my reluctance comes from. *Sigh*.

Thanks for the friendly reminder @julesG gave me. Because I only then remembered that me neither I‘m prepared for possible Halloween 👻🎃 guests. My significant other and I decided to only buy candy 🍬 we both like to eat – so that it won‘t turn bad after Saint-Martin‘s-Day. 😂

Halloween 👻 ain‘t so big over here (🇩🇪) but is steadily growing – especially among the kids of course. I‘m no real friend of this development because we have “Sankt Martin” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/St._Martin's_Day?wprov=sfti1) on November, 11th where the kids pilgrim their neighbourhood with (mostly self made) lanterns, sing songs about St. Martin and get candy 🍬 in return.

I hope to spend the evening like @Rachel.Rencher does.

julesG I'm not prepared for Halloween. And I'll have to remember to get sweets for St Martin's. My daughter wants to go trick-or-treating tomorrow. I hope she'll have forgotten by the time we're done with all the errands we have to run tomorrow afternoon/evening. I have given permission to her wearing her witch hat to the dentist's appointment tomorrow though (I know for a fact the dentist is going to wear vampire fangs). 5y
Buechersuechtling @julesG How cool is that‼️ A vampire-🧛🏻‍♀️-fang wearing dentist 🦷‼️ (I assume your daughter doesn‘t know, does she❓) I‘d appreciate photographed proof of both, the cool hat 🧙🏼‍♀️ and the fangs. 5y
julesG No, my daughter doesn't know yet. I'll try my best to capture both. 5y
Buechersuechtling @julesG 🤗🙇🏽‍♀️ 5y
Rachel.Rencher Sankt Martin sounds way more fun than Halloween! I've always thought trick or treating was an odd thing to do. Many people over here are doing "trunk or treat" instead, which is where people will park and hand out candy from the trunks of their car rather than having kids knock on doors. If you can, take pictures and share with us Littens! ❤ 5y

How cool is that‼️🤓 Haven‘t seen a book that starts with the acknowledgement for a long while.

A very long while.

Years❓

Maybe.

So … new book, new luck 🍀. Again. Silly, but I appreciate that at the moment. After having been so disappointed by my reading experiences with Connie Palmen and Philip Roth, I feel I need something to restore my faith in me, the reads I choose – and my competent educational background.

To something completely different: German Littens: @Sarah83 seems to have disappeared. Haven‘t seen her posting for a while. Does anyone know❓

TrishB No - I noticed she hadn‘t posted for a couple of weeks. 5y
Buechersuechtling @TrishB So did I. Thank you for your feedback. 5y

“Beneath the surface of Washington D.C., in a Cold War bunker, a group of men meet to sentence a young woman to death. It‘s Faith Lockhart, a brilliant young lobbyist, who committed an unforgivable crime. She knows too much, and won‘t keep her mouth shut.”

⬆️⬆️⬆️ Met the book at a thrift and it was this blurb that made me take it home and ignore that it‘s a 20-years-old thriller.

I thought I already have read something by Baldacci – but haven‘t.
