Amazons, Abolitionists, and Activists: A Graphic History of Women's Fight for Their Rights | Mikki Kendall
17 posts | 10 read | 20 to read
A bold and gripping graphic history of the fight for women's rights The ongoing struggle for women's rights has spanned human history, touched nearly every culture on Earth, and encompassed a wide range of issues, such as the right to vote, work, get an education, own property, exercise bodily autonomy, and beyond. Amazons, Abolitionists, and Activists is a fun and fascinating graphic novel-style primer that covers the key figures and events that have advanced women's rights from antiquity to the modern era. In addition, this compelling book illuminates the stories of notable women throughout history--from queens and freedom fighters to warriors and spies--and the progressive movements led by women that have shaped history, including abolition, suffrage, labor, civil rights, LGBTQ liberation, reproductive rights, and more. Examining where we've been, where we are, and where we're going, Amazons, Abolitionists, and Activists is an indispensable resource for people of all genders interested in the fight for a more liberated future.

This was a great graphic novel that provides a broad overview of women's history throughout the US and abroad. It was well done and very engaging.

I am not a huge nonfiction buff so I enjoyed reading about amazing women in this graphic book.

There is a lot of information in this book. It is such a good book about women's history and how the fight for equal rights. Even if you know a lot about this topic this is a great reminder of the work that was done and the work that still needs to be done. Also, I really loved the graphics in this book.

This overview of feminism through the ages has decent art and a very intersectional approach. Unfortunately it also has issues with structure - it‘s literally a long lecture in graphic form. I feel it could have worked better broken into half a dozen books with more depth and a more engaging form.

Spotted this today at the local Barnes and Noble and I couldn‘t resist. There are some good facts in here I never would‘ve known. Seems to be geared towards younger teens but it‘s still good for adults. I was reading snippets aloud to my girlfriend.

Starting a little late (but better late than never) to the #cyoreadathon - that I‘m hoping will get me back on track for reading print books... if not I‘ve got plenty on kindle to keep me occupied. 🤣

Top three are books I‘ve already started a while ago and bottom two are graphic novels I‘ve been meaning to read for months.

An awesome graphic novel chock-full of interesting info and facts about the history of women‘s rights. I thought there was little too much info. It felt a bit crammed and thought this would‘ve worked better as a series. There were some facts and stories in here that I would‘ve loved more info on. Still, a great book to have and read for any little girl (or boy) and all adults!

It is a phenomenal graphic history of women's existence, tackling culture, religion, sexuality, gender, feminism, and so much more. I spent my entire childhood searching for remarkable women in history. I wish I'd had this book (also Google) as a little girl because it would have given me so much hope. As an adult they articulate a motto I have been trying to live through for over a decade, “There‘s nothing feminist about excluding people.”

This look at women‘s fight for rights highlights women of color, specifically calling out racism in the suffrage movement and beyond. The Civil Rights Movement, Labor Movement, Stonewall Rebellion, Disability Rights Movement, Black Feminism, American Indian Movement, Trans Activism, Intersectionality + much more are discussed.

I loved this one. It‘s a great pictorial overview of the complexities of women‘s rights.
